I'm sure this was intentional, but his feet appear to be white and not orange. Also, I always pictured the orange spike on his head as being hair, not a horn. Even so, the horn/hair is on the back of his head, and not on the top. You should see less of the horn and more of the head near the bottom of it.

I'm basing Gimmick off of this design.

Mainly because I couldn't figure out how to make his feet work with a white shade. You're on to something about the horn, though. If anything I should shift it back a bit. Thank you!

EDIT: Scratch that, I made white feet work. I also shifted the horn back.

What do you guys think? And what feet color works better?

The white looks interesting!

just adding this for comparision,

This activity's purpose is not to make the sprite better than the original counterpart, as weird as this sounds. This serves more as a way to make your own interpretation of the character, adding and subtracting details as you see fit, while keeping some of its characteristics.

By using the same colors from the original, you're forced to think creatively, and try new combinations of colors that otherwise you mightn't have thought before. In this case, instead of doing the usual green>dark green pattern, I did a green>yellow>dark green combination. Also, some of the details changed from the original sprite: the shoes became yellow and the eye is now much more detailed, even if compared to the boxart. This might not look like a huge difference, but this artistic license is what gives the character your own flavor. Notice that this was mainly made without thinking 'I am going to make this sprite better than the original', but rather 'I'll just make my version of the character'. If you see the character's horn as hair, do so. This is what matters the most; exercizing your OWN creativity. The fact that your sprite looks better than the original is only a by-product of the latter thinking.

tl;dr be creative, people~~

Ana is bothering me so much...
Any advice? I'm satisfied with Loid and Ninten.

RE: JUNE ACTIVITY: Resprite the NESprites - Cobalt Blue - 06-23-2012

needs a more cheerful, friendly attitude. right now she looks rather sad.

RE: JUNE ACTIVITY: Resprite the NESprites - Sinkin - 06-23-2012

I failed at the right leg (our right)... Though this was quite a challenge!

So, I actually put some effort in this time, though I still found this new style a challenge. Thoughts?

Just two quick-ones. Bottom's palette made me want to strangle myself, tbh.

try harder.

(seriusly, try harder. those things on the sprite arent some random blobs of paint)

I think I did it right, though I wasn't sure on how to make the forearms/legs interesting.

Where is it worst? I'm going to try and fix the hair, right (our left) heel and the torso's shading.

RE: JUNE ACTIVITY: Resprite the NESprites - Virt - 06-24-2012

The face is very low, and there aren't many details on the body. If you look at the original sprite, it kinda looks like he's wearing some sort of jacket/vest.

EDIT:

Rushed this a bit, so there are plenty of things wrong with it. Especially that darn fork.
