i've heard from another source that the gameplay gets stale really quickly and the AI is brainless. tbh i've been really neutral about the game for months now and i'm probably not going to get it.

Yeah, stuff does tend to get stale in it kind of quickly (some of the gags that they pull off, especially those regarding soundtrack choices [see: shop song, star soul mode song], are prime examples of this), and yeah, the gameplay doesn't really deviate aside from a few small minigames, but a first-time run with no expectations makes it pretty enjoyable!

It's honestly one of those things where you're either going to like the constant hack-and-slash with hordes of zombies that admittedly have sketchy AI systems, or you don't. I'm personally okay with the hack-and-slashing, and the game's short enough so that it doesn't become too harrowing, but if you feel like you wouldn't enjoy it then you probably won't.

Also, the game kind of plays up the skirt thing a bit too much. You get a fucking achievement for peeking. Even for a Suda51 game standards, what the fuck?

RE: Gaming Lounge - Alpha Six - 06-14-2012

yeah i've heard quite about about the upskirting too. it actually pisses me off quite a bit and i'm really hoping it wasn't something that was Suda's idea.

Don't Worry Guys, Sexism Doesn't Exist

RE: Gaming Lounge - Rosencrantz - 06-14-2012

Suda's not above making constant dick jokes and I remember there being that one thing where he compared No More Heroes to taking a dump, but... the upskirt thing really doesn't seem to fit him :F

At the same time, he collaborated with James Gunn, who was responsible for a lot of the character design. I'd say it's a safe bet to say it wasn't Suda's intention to do that shit in the first place.

RE: Gaming Lounge - Alpha Six - 06-14-2012

Ah Yes, James Gunn

also i think there's a difference between some harmless jokes about dicks and Legitimate Sexism Against Women

RE: Gaming Lounge - Rosencrantz - 06-14-2012

Yeah, I wasn't really sure where I was going with trying to compare Suda's toilet humor to sexism. I guess I was thinking that *if* he had a hand in the sexism, it was probably because "hee hee, butts" and not "this will satisfy some dirty people out there." Which is wrong, I know, since the game disgustingly played up on the sexism bit. Sorry for hinting at that terrible analogy :C

Metal Gear Rising: Revengance was named "Best Action Game of E3 2012" by CVG
Quote:You might wish MG Rising Revengeance was a 'proper' MGS game, but Rising is wilfully different - and potentially something quite spectacular. Team CVG's Dan Dawkins claimed it's the most fun action game he's played in years, with "details that make you feel truly heroic".

Kojima fanboys, occasional Snake Eaters and complete novices; every kind of player we caught playing Revegeance at E3 came away with a massive smile on their faces, mostly thanks to its huge set-pieces, deep combat system and utterly enjoyable slicing system. It's a big surprise and potentially, the best console bruiser since Bayonetta. Congratulations, Konami - you deserve it.

that's not saying much considering this year's E3... but it's a pretty damn good start. my hype for this game is unexplainable

this game was made purely to satisfy people out there. namely, the japanese audience.

SPECIFICALLY the japanese audience.

i mean, one of the unlockable "costumes" is basically taken from an anime about fanservice and zombies.(welp)

i've read and heard people about the game both praising and complaining its "arcade"ish gameplay and dumb, utterly dumb humor, though for a personal record, i couldn't find this game to be more cheap and not appealing, and rather be overly childish and idiotic. it tried to be a parody of itself but ends being rather dull and idiotic in the instant you dont feel any apeal for chuck norris-level jokes.

RE: Gaming Lounge - Dazz - 06-14-2012

I've got it but not played it yet, and I'm going to go with Meta here. It's like it started off a parody, then forgot what it was doing...

RE: Gaming Lounge - Alpha Six - 06-14-2012

however, i will say the best part of the game is its heavy use of Comic Sans MS

i think suda is getting a little lost in his own ideas. potentially relying too much on sales?

No More Heroes is a really popular series that a lot of people love for many reasons, but since it seems to be the only kind of game he's made recently that's selling (DMD is a fantastic game-- but less than 25k sales between both versions combined? really?), he doesn't want to take risks anymore and is just making more NMH-styled games. which are fun and all, but we've seen what Suda is capable of.
it feels like he got bit by the Game Industry Bug that sucks away your creativity. it becomes less about creating great games and more about creating something that will cash in.

i would love to see another Killer7 or a better version of P.N. 03, or hell-- even something Totally Different that doesn't look like any of his past works?

RE: Gaming Lounge - Mutsukki - 06-14-2012

I kinda want this game, it looks different and the presentation is great. Suda games are always like that. Good presentation, funny story/satire and shit boring gameplay with incredible boss fights. Shadow of the Damned was like that, and I enjoyed it, but it did get boring fast enough.

Also, how actually terrible is the upskirt thing? Reading about it, it just seems like your run-of-the-mill fanservice, like, idk, Sakura kicking in Street Fighter and stuff like that.

Just Because It Is Something That Happens A Lot Doesn't Make It Okay And Suddenly Not Sexist, Hope That Helps

RE: Gaming Lounge - Mutsukki - 06-14-2012

I guess. I have no issue with fanservice, as long it doesn't go overboard, like High School of the Dead. Looks like this game kinda goes overboard, though.

I watched someone doing the mentioned achievement, she pull downs her skirt when the camera gets close. I thought that was kinda clever.
