RE: SUPER ARISA WORLD - Gors - 10-29-2012

it's ok if you think it like that. But seriously, I already said that I am going to redesign her, and like I said two pages before,

Quote:even if we didn't think about all the possibilities mentioned in this page, it doesn't invalidate them as being part of the character.

so even if my initial intention wasn't that, nothing forbids me from adding more fitting characteristics that help character development. I know it sounds like an excuse, but yes, it is kind of supposed to be subpar. Or it initailly should.
I am not ignoring anything or coming with excuses out of my butt; I had the idea for this character for a a relatively long time and that's the way I would like her to be in the game. Sure, I can model her to be more likeable but I think that going to the point of trampling my initial concept is kind of unpleasant. I mean, I added Sanek to represent all the bad, jaggy sprites. Then Kevin Triebel, which represents the plethora of bad spriters we have here. Then why not one that represent the sprite editors that come here asking to 'rate' their work?
This game is a parody, like TomGuycott said; so there is no need to get upset (I said this again and again already), it's all meant to be a funny thing. I am not trying to better official games, I am not trying to reinvent the genre. My main goal is to make, to create something. It's not even to have this game done; finishing it would be a secondary goal of mine.

I will do my best to make Belle likeable to everyone, but have in mind I can't simply please anyone. I'll take your criticism into account and try finding a sweet spot between being a parody of sprite edits and a likeable character.

RE: SUPER ARISA WORLD - RokuGurin - 10-29-2012

Alright, alright. As Previous said, let's get back to the point please.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Gors once again.

getting worked up about the fundementals of character design maybe
but honestly, even if you are designing a character for a parody game, or kids show, or one off comic a designer should give a character the same amount of care and integrity as a character of a more substantial work
I guess the exception would be if the designer really doesn't care about what they are making, but gors has put to much effort into this project for that to be the case
so I think its valid to get worked up when discussing such an integral part of of the game making process (character design)

EDIT: welp I got ninja'd too, now I'm the one beating the dead horse

Zac said something funny about that.

"'Rival' implies that Arisa actually cares."

RE: SUPER ARISA WORLD - Gors - 10-29-2012

it is true, Zac

I enjoy this type of discussions because it gives me others' point of view. Something that I can't see can be seen by others, and they can help me making something better. I am just surprised that how much stir a single character caused. I'll take some time to work on this and find a common denominator here. I am just displeased that apparently people got insulted or anything (at least, it's what looks like). All this was common sprite discussion, please don't be hurt from all this.

I'm going to take a break from this for a while, so I can start fresh. You can still continue discussing the game, but I'll give myself some time to rework it and make something that is worthy for all the Spriters Resource.

You and me both.

*sigh* I feel like I inadvertently caused some kind of disaster... Sad

RE: SUPER ARISA WORLD - Mutsukki - 10-29-2012

Maybe the problem here is the term "rival". Perhaps because she isn't exactly a "rival", but there's no better word for it? A rival makes you think about a character that has equal or at least semi-equal importance to the story/game, I think. That's not the feel I get from Belle, so maybe midboss is more accurate? lol

Ehh...that's not very valid to be honest. I did mention Barry from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. He was only a rival in persisting to challenge you. He didn't look badass in any way but he still made his mark as a "rival".

The term is being used too specifically when in actuality it's very broad.

(By the way, I believe you mean "Dark Adonis".)

RE: SUPER ARISA WORLD - StarSock64 - 10-29-2012

I wasn't talking about Arisa caring about her rival, but the audience caring about her rival...

Should I seriously make another C+C posting style discussion thread because idk why this is still a problem or why people think I'm personally investing my emotions into this

Like, Gorsal, if you don't want to accept my C+C because of your own reasons, that's fine and I understand. I just wanted to offer another perspective and say how I honestly felt about the art/discussion because I thought that's what this thread was for. Idk why this is even considered drama in the first place.

I'll humor you in saying that there is validity in having the main character acknowledge someone as a rival rather than having the audience do so instead.

All in all your C+C is highly appreciated. So simmer down a bit, please.

Made a little edit. I changed some details very slightly to get the idea that it was based off Arisa. The thread lacks curly hair!!

I was going to add this to my post, but I left it out since it would look like I was beating a dead horse.

Well

Barry is the least memorable rival in all the series :I There's not a single great scene with him I can think off, besides his annoying personality of running into people. (I wouldn't count Wally, because Wally barely appears)

Also woah, cute edit Chris

That hair is perfect. It's not as generic and shows her cyllindrical form better. And that strand of hair is the iceing on the cake.

RE: SUPER ARISA WORLD - Shinbs - 10-29-2012

I like the curly hair, the pose goes against what Gors wants, but I do like the hair.My redesign was meant to be more japanese btw,I didn't know she was meant to be french.
But yeah, the new concept Gors posted did kinda come out of nowhere, and seems more like he patched this up now rather it than being there from the start.
I do like the "new" concept btw,but it just kinda came out nowhere and contradicts a few thing that you said earlier,Gors.I guess you would saved a few pages of discussion if you posted that earlier, heh.
I do agree with SS that she shouldn't look too ordinary though, but let's just see how things go from now.
