N64 Sound Ripping? - Garamonde - 02-25-2012

Yeah. I checked Google with several keyword combos but no success. I read about this "Srip", but it didn't sound like that program would work very well.

Specifically, I wanted to rip all the sounds from Kirby 64 (and some others if I could find a decent method to rip them), and REALLY wanted to find a program that would rip/extract the sound files before I attempted to try out Audacity or whatever it is that records things to get them (especially considering that emulators aren't perfect sound-wise...).

So, can anyone help?

Maybe this will work. Big Grin

Thanks John, I'll try that out. Big Grin

You might need to check the settings so that you don't have to hunt the files down; when I fired up real quick, I noticed it dumped a lot of sound files to the root of my drive, and didn't keep them in the one folder.

This might sound stupid but why not just use the sound test Project64's Audio Logging feature?

I went and checked that, and it seems that using Audio Logging in PJ64 would result in everything being captured. This would make it very hard to extract sounds, since Background music is almost always playing.

You should able to get around that though. Once you complete a game, and go to Options under the complete save file, you'll find a Sound Check that lets you listen to each sound effect or song individually.

Granted, there is that (and that's what was used for RtDL's sounds). That'll just take a lot more time is all. Wink

This tool should work with most N64 games (ones that don't have a sound test menu). Wink

If I'm gonna be completely honest, I didn't even know what that feature was or did. I'm glad you told me.

But if possible I'd like to actually extract them, you know, it's more professional and all that (plus there may be a small difference in quality? I always wonder about that).

K64 however does have a sound test and there is no music playing unless you choose to start playing a song, so that wasn't the issue for me. I'll get around to trying this sometimes, dunno when but I will.

Oh yeah with the logging feature you'll definitely pick up background static if there is any, the rip will be much cleaner. I know were not supposed to talk about this but it makes me wonder if there are programs like that that directly rip music.

RE: N64 Sound Ripping? - Garamonde - 02-29-2012

Alright then, thanks for the info. Also it's okay to talk about it, just as long as no one actually submits any music. Tongue

While I was looking at a Goldeneye 007 video with a Zelda mod on YouTube, I came across this program:

I tried it for Extreme-G and successfully got sound effects and instruments without any sound issues. =D

Thanks, I'll be sure to try it out! Big Grin

Well I clicked on that link and couldn't help noticing things like Bust a Move and Puzzle Bobble 64 on that list.

Brb ripping some sounds. Big Grin
