Suikoden II-style Nash Latkje sprite attempt - SierraLatkje - 11-20-2011

I hope this was the right forum to post this in? I've worked up a sprite of the Suikogaiden hero Nash Latkje based on about three or four Suikoden II sprites. I did it for use in a YouTube video, but I thought I'd post it here and see what people thought.

This is the first time I've tried making a new sprite--I have done some combination work (like making other characters from the first Suikoden ride the dragon horses) and recoloring (making Cleo's sprite match her dialog portrait)--but actual new sprite work is a first for me. In other words, please be gentle with your criticisms, if you don't mind.

Looking at the image in the preview, I see that the colors look a bit darker than they did in Photoshop. I don't know why...

i could use some reference material to compare it to this sprite. namely said sukoiden sprites and the character itself

The Suikosource page for the first Suikogaiden is http://www.suikosource.com/games/gaiden1/, and Nash is on the cover, though only from about the waist up. There are a lot of pictures of him in the pages that follow, but http://www.suikosource.com/images/gaiden1/3/07.jpg is probably as good a shot as any. I have a figure of him, so I was more working from that than from any given picture; the three dimensional object helps give a good view of all sides. (I would have sent you to the main Suikosource page for the character, but the only portrait of him on the page is from Suikoden III, which is fifteen years later, so he looks very different.)

The sprites I was working from were Klaus for his head http://spriters-resource.com/psx_ps2/suikodenii/sheet/20260
Sasuke for his scarf http://spriters-resource.com/psx_ps2/suikodenii/sheet/20287
Miklotov for his body http://spriters-resource.com/psx_ps2/suikodenii/sheet/20273
and Sasarai for the front hanging down bit of his coat. http://spriters-resource.com/psx_ps2/suikodenii/sheet/20334
Obviously, the scarf was the biggest problem--and probably still is the biggest problem--since Sasuke's scarf is only on one side, and is much smaller, since he's a boy instead of a man.

He's a pretty poor showing, huh?

Edit: This is probably a better image to use for comparisons.

The image is sort of sloppy because I scanned it out of a book.
