RE: New here, looking for c+c. - Gwen - 02-12-2011

I'm sorry, but what the hell is your problem, it doesn't matter about the sprite in his sig, this about your sprites, now you should either accept the advice, or leave, because this doesn't seem to be a place you'll enjoy.

RE: New here, looking for c+c. - GrooveMan.exe - 02-12-2011

Not exactly! The lightest shade is pure white for contrast reasons (it's a small sprite. With those, readability is an important factor). The darkest shade of grey is actually purple shifted.

Please don't try to make me sound like a hypocrite so you can disregard my advice. Especially when you're not actually correct.

RE: New here, looking for c+c. - Knight9910 - 02-12-2011

It doesn't work that way. You can't tell someone to do something you don't, then say "don't call me out, because we're talking about you." Although, if it isn't a pure greytone, then that's something else. Upon closer inspection I can barely see a little bit of purple, so yeah.

Although as long as we're on the topic you can't come in, tell me my work is ugly, offer no advice on how to fix it, then accuse me of not being able to take criticism when I don't just accept that I suck. I'm getting actual advice now, but only because I specifically said something about it. So if you're wondering what my problem is, I'd say it's that.

No, I'm saying "Don't call me out on something that you're wrong about." I don't actually have to help you and give you advice - none of us do - so I'd rather you not try and backchat me for helping.

The previous thread, which contained basically the same advice as now, but delivered by people with somewhat more patience.

No one has said you are awful.

Stop playing the victim here, you shithead.

Advice on how to fix something =/= telling you you're a bad artist
Telling what you have right now is not all that attractive aesthetically and how to fix it =/= telling you you're a bad artist

People have offered advice - stop telling them they haven't. You're just ignoring it. Oh, also:

Quote:I don't actually have to help you and give you advice - none of us do -

So take it or leave.

RE: New here, looking for c+c. - Gors - 02-12-2011

hi, mod here

closing this because OP=shithead

RE: New here, looking for c+c. - Maxpphire - 02-12-2011

Also stickying and changing the title to "an Example of How not to take criticism"

RE: An example of how NOT to take criticism. - Cobalt Blue - 02-13-2011

hello its me the spriting mod.

opening thread because i said so. unsticking it for the same reason. thanks. if OP doesnt want to post anymore on TSR because he finds our feedback unrelated to HIS interests may it be HIS decision to do so, not cause whe decided to kick him away. he didn't break any rule besides being a complete stubborn person.

RE: New here looking for C&C - Chris2Balls [:B] - 02-13-2011

i don't agree with all that has been said in the thread, may it be from the staff or members.
1. pixel art's objective isn't purely to have the smallest palette possible- firstly, restrictions used to be linked to the hardware. secondly, since these restrictions have practically disappeared, it is up to the artist to choose whether or not he wants to reduce his palette.
2. it's not by dishing out threats in your first post here that you're going to get on well with anybody, on the contrary. especially if you use bold or italics.
3. banding makes your volume lose definition.
4. okay, we're giving out criticism, but this doesn't mean that we give a judgment without any justification. it's true that we could expect that this judgment would make the OP think why we said this in the first place, but it's always nice to know why the work in progress evoked that judgment in the first place, which could also help.
5. bye for now

RE: New here looking for C&C - Gors - 02-13-2011

I closed this because I felt this would get uncontrollable soon (also OP's inability to be nice and willing to be better to a considerable extent), but I see what you mean.

Let's see how he acts from now on.

Also about the palette thing, while you can have infinite colors in your work, it is better to stick with a few than having 20+ colors in a sprite like this, principally if OP doesn't have the ability to use as many colors in a good way.

EDIT: wait, he did that another topic saying that "he didn't need us" and that "he is going to leave". I'll let this open for a while in case he returns; if he doesn't come back, then I think it's reason enough to close the thread.

Quote:Okay. I really thought i was right, that you weren't just disrespectful elitists, that it only seemed like you were because i was the one who got insulted. You know, that's how it usually is. It seemed to me like I was insulted then when I get angry people treat me like the asshole for not rolling over. But I was sure there was no way that could be right. There's no way a real person with a working brain could possibly think that "acknowledging that I might not be completely terrible" is the same thing as "licking my ass and telling me I'm the best."

But alright. Since it's apparently true that that really is the way you are, then okay. I don't need help from anyone like you. Bye.

I inserted this small bit some minutes before. I'll do this just so he can't say we didn't give him another chance.

I tried, decided to stop at the legs, if Knight ever comes back, here's something for him to look over.

RE: New here looking for C&C - BynineB - 02-13-2011

Ten thousand times better. Contrast, proper shading, proper outline, a face that doesn't look weird and is proportional to the body, I could go on. Hopefully he looks at that and sees what he's missing.

RE: New here looking for C&C - Hoeloe - 02-14-2011

He won't be able to tell the difference. He doesn't have the patience to look at it properly.
