Guess you can chalk one down for yourself on that scoreboard of yours.

It's fine, I thought it was a remake of 1 until a few days ago.

Quote:What is with the whole rivalry of Fan Remix and Sonic 2 HD in this thread anyway? I'll be in fucking heaven if either one of those projects ever get completed :I
It's not as much of a rivalry, but a discussion about how comparing of two different things and how they were planned and got worked on in the fields of how different they are. There are obvious differences, but I mean, you have Fan Remix,
and it's like, fantastic and all that, and when you compare it to the original Sonic 2, it stands out as far as fuck.

This is sort of just,
you know,
the same as 2, doesn't stand out as much.

RE: Sonic 2 HD - Cobalt Blue - 01-17-2011

first rule of any anounced sonic game: we dont get excited about it.

RE: Sonic 2 HD - Alpha Six - 01-17-2011

The Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 threads would like to have a word with you, I remember both of those threads generating a pretty fucking big amount of hype.

reason why <rule #1>
although again its just a matter of tastes. completely and absolutely about tastes. personally i dont and will still dont see anything particulary remarkable in a rework of the graphics, the music, keeping the gameplay as close as the original one.

in fact i dont really think sonic games have much to offer me anyway, besides of the novelty they're one of the last platforming franchises still alive. and that alone implies shitloads of nostalgia that will hardly allow any kind of rational judgement about it.

mean honestly. i couldn't give two shits about a remake of a classic. i'd rather prefer a new game entirely. with a new character, and a new gameplay. thats where sega usually shines.

RE: Sonic 2 HD - Iceman404 - 01-17-2011

I waited 2 years, for 11 seconds of film in a Sonic 4 like PR teaser.
I know they didn't release the alpha because of last minute glitches or something on those terms, but I'd rather play a glitched game than no game at all.

What new characters/gameplay have Sega created in the last 5 years? Bayonetta, MadWorld, and Vanquish were developed by Platinum Games, and The House of the Dead: Overkill was developed by... not Sega. All Sega does now is continue to pay Sonic Team to make Sonic games, or publish other IPs made by different companies. They're barely involved in game development themselves.

Who said they wouldn't release the alpha, the trailer itself says that the alpha will be released this year. In fact, extremely soon, it says that it will be released in the first quarter of 2011. :I

That's pretty much it. SEGA really doesn't do shit nowadays other than continue milking the cash cow that is the Sonic franchise.

RE: Sonic 2 HD - Iceman404 - 01-18-2011

Does a "Closed Community Project" really make sense?

RE: Sonic 2 HD - Rökkan - 01-18-2011

Closed Community Project means it's closed from the community instead of it being open to everyone to see how the development is going and to freely participate on the development :I

RE: Sonic 2 HD - Vipershark - 01-18-2011

It used to be completely open, but then they decided to make their own team and continue.

exactly my point?

look at sega where the dreamcast was there and see how many franchises they spawned.

sega cant do shit to make a new sonic, or remake a sonic, and no one can actually because the whole concept of sonic is so old and so outdated its pretty much beating a dead horse for the sake of keeping someone's "hero" alive. pretty much like megaman's formula.

sure you can please the fans with any new game relased about sonic(and eventually displease an equally amount of fans because its not what they expected at the same time heh)

Doesn't capcom try to actually make Megaman different with every series they spawn out for that franchise? All sonic team did to make sonic fresh was add a bunch of gimmicks and still keep the same gameplay that has been around for the past 20 years sonic has been out. (excluding the spin-offs.)

megaman games often try new things and are consistently fun and well made? i mean i'll admit that 9 and 10 are pandering to retrofags and not really trying anything new but they are still well designed and stuff. sega just consistently fails to make a decent revival of a franchise which has been dead for a decade.

RE: Sonic 2 HD - Alpha Six - 01-19-2011

I dunno, people seem to have generally enjoyed Sonic Colors.

RE: Sonic 2 HD - Sengir - 01-19-2011

What Sega can't grasp is that the gaming market is always changing. What's wanted by the audience 10 years ago isn't wanted by the audience now. Sega's trying desperately to appeal to the old audience and the new audience, but that rarely works. How many people would really play a remix of Yar's Revenge?

Like Metaru said, they're better off making new games with new gameplay and new IP. You can't live off a single IP forever, even Nintendo acknowledges that. They milk Mario, but have many many backups.
