[IDEA] - [UNPAID TEAM] - GAME TITLE: Get There While You Can... - EF-WHY-EL - 10-06-2010

I've been spriting on and off for a while and finally got round to starting my own sheet for a game I want to develop. You will find the sheet posted below.

This game style is based on Gameboy and is only a short.

The name of the game is "Get There While You Can".
I know the story line may sound a bit weird or stupid, but please, hear me out.

The main character has run out of 40 oz beers and is in desperate need for some more, but unfortunately the liquor store is right on the other side of the island and closes in 4 minutes.

The character has 100 monies for beer, but doesn't have long until the liquor store closes. You have to race your character across several frustrating levels, destroying "squares" (bad guys), jumping water, dodging spikes, avoiding pits and leaping evil cacti without dropping more than 50 monies (if you want to get a high score) and get to the liquor store before it closes.

If anyone is interested in coding this in flash that would be fantastic, but i'm still willing to work with other gaming programmes.

I am also capable of creating the music for this game, so it would be script and coding that I would need to most but if anyone else wants to help out with stuff like that. that'd be rad.

I'm open to ideas but I really want to keep this game style as close to Gameboy as possible.

Hope I got the rules right :/

EDIT:
There are 3 characters for character selection.

Yo dude! It's been a while! Ü
Thanks for the encouragement, i'm happy you like the idea. I hope people want to do it.

It's funny that you read my name as Eiffel seeing as i'm living in Paris haha!

UPDATE:

Someone over a Kongregate has agreed to work with me.

So i'll just try to keep this topic posted with the progress. I think we're gonna start working on it tomorrow.

RE: [IDEA] - [UNPAID TEAM] - GAME TITLE: Get There While You Can... - EF-WHY-EL - 10-09-2010

GAME UPDATE:

Game story changed. Same sprite base:

We've decided to make this game a bit more comical than the beer idea. The main reason for the last game story was because i'd spent so long putting together a sprite base I didn't give it enough time to think of a good story, so I rushed it.

The game is now to do with idea of helping others and only looking out for yourself and the out comes of each choice you make.

We have have dubbed our main character as a religiously confused being. It is up to the gamer to be good or bad.
So he's either a hero or an arsehole.

You go through each level fighting off bad guys and jumping objects and platforms like any other platformer but on each level you come across a stranded character that needs help being taken to the end of the level.

You (the gamer) has the choice of helping them and making the game harder for yourself or leaving them and making your way to the end of the game slightly easier.

If you collect a stranded character they slow you down and make it harder to jump distances and objects. Also your life span slowly decreases from exhaustion.

If however you decided not to collect the character in need you are able to clear each level more easily and you only lose health if you are hit by bad guys or things you have to dodge.

Because of these options we have decided to give the game 2 alternate endings.

If you decide to make it easier on yourself and take a satanists path and leave the stranded behind you die and go to hell, so the final end is a failed ending because even if you are a satanist it still wont be your heaven because satan only knows torment.

But if you save each character on each level and make it to the end you die and go to heaven which is also a failed ending because what is one mans heaven is another mans hell.

We have had a bit of talk about a possible third ending if you only help half the people or whatever meaning you go to purgatory.....Also another fail.
Basically, the game is hell.

Please keep in mind that we have only stereotyped the satanic religion and simplified meanings of others to make this game work.

Also I am not part of any religion I just find them all very interesting.

I have started to work on new sheet for carrying the stranded characters on your back. Once I have finished the sheet I will post it up.

_______________

Update:

Here's a quick sample of what i've been working on. There's a bunch more of these to come a long with the walking and jumping actions.

So here's our character being a good samaritan and taking a dude with an awesome hair style to saftey.

Late update:

Here's some spriting progress...
I have now finished every character movement I can think off. Here is a low quality image of the full sheet so far.
I am thinking of doing a power up sprite but i'm a little unsure.
The coding is still being formed for a lot of this but so it is nowhere near playable yet. Hopefully at some point we will be able to release a mini trailer or something haha.

UPDATE:

My programmer has for some reason disappeared meaning this game is on hold until I can find someone else willing to help me out.

Any takers? I want it to be a flash game.

Anyways, I guess it may be a bit of a long shot, but is anyone interested in helping me create this game?

I would still quite like to complete this project.
