I'm new where should I start? - Slicer224 - 08-21-2010

Hi people, I'm newly registered but have been using the site for about 2 years for my spriting needs. I have some good ideas but i'm not sure I can accomplish them. Does anybody have any tips or a good beginning sprite I can do?

You should have started where all new-comers start, in the new-comers thread.
Though I guess now, a mod will have to move this or something.

At any rate, welcome, I guess.

As for a good beginning sprite, do something original (i.e. no recolors or edits). When I first got into pixelling, I found it easiest to pixel objects and then I moved on to people. Try pixelling an object around the house that you are interested in, really look at it and try to bring out details while restricting your color count.

I assume you did these before I suggested the whole spriting objects thing. Honestly objects are a great place to start, living creatures are much more difficult to do properly.

At any rate, I don't have any idea what that pink thing is. I assume the furthest right is just a normal person's face. The bottom one is Spiderman, I think.

Well, for starters, why is Spiderman checker-boarded? The marks on his mask are supposed to be a pattern of concentric circles that increase in size. What you did conveys no perspective to the roundness of his face, nor to the pattern that the mask is supposed to have.

The normal person's face is rather simplistic, but I guess it works to a degree.

Again, I don't know what that pink thing is so I can't suggest anything there.

If you read that thread you would have known EXACTLY where to post your "Hi I'm new" thread.

Since you didn't read that at all, I'm assuming you also haven't read the rules seeing how it is in the Rules section.

Please read every thread in the Rules section before continuing on posting here.

I'm going to suggest that if you really want more help on spriting, make a thread in the sprite discussion area.
