there isn't much to say about it. its just a flat, boring desing of a stick with some out of balance colors(the sword features an all black blade and brown hilt with an extremely neon green ball :V) and overall poor contrast in its shading. while its a somehow nice start, i'd suggest you to work on a bit more elaborated desings that do not depend that much on the line/shape tool of MS paint. not to mention, avoid mirroing the same image for the sake of making it elaborated.

what Metaru said.

choosing the right colors isvery important: your sword is almost black, even if it has three colors in it. This means you need to contrast (make the difference between one color and the other more apparent). Hue shifting will make it more interesting, too (search it in google, I don't know how to explain it properly).

I started my spriting with swords, actually, much like this.

Im not much better at spriting now, but for swords, im pretty good. A piece of advice i would give you right now, is to draw a large sword, (i dunno, 10x that big?), and design that. You dont have to do any fancy shading, just basic light on one side, dark on the other. Do color it though, and give it a nice color scheme. Make sure you know what a fully detailed version would look like, (Drawing it on paper works, too), before you draw a smaller sprite. Just remember, too much detail, and the sprite will look cluttered, and dithered with random colors. This sword isnt very good at all, but im sure youll get better.

If you need an example of what im talking about, ill gladly make you one later, but i cant at the moment. If you want a simpler way to do this, ask, this is just the way i did it, and found it easy.

Ok. Thanks for your criticism and compared to all my other scratches and attempts at shading, this one is actuall y the best shaded.
