We're already in the middle of a massive slowdown; is it possible to slowdown more? Tongue If anything creating pixel arts would be contributing to the output.

It would slow things down alot, yes.
But there isn't another way.
Either we make a pixel art for every character, or we make a Hi-Res version of ever character. Besides those, there isn't another good looking way.

I think the pixelarts should be completely unique, using a different sprite style (pixel art, in this case) than the ingame sprites. Much like in this picture by AbyssWolf.

Honestly, I think something like your avatar would fit well. It's nice and colorful like the actual style, but much more expressive.

Well I did make it in the limitations of the original game style. Which brings me to another point, limitations. The card images could be 80x80, with the rare player character cards having the character kinda pop out of the box, like in this example.

Cards could also have the name label and card base coloured based on rarity (with characters & bosses having the Gold Rank, stages & other misc the Silver Rank and plain enemies & items the Bronze Rank). Of course, this isn't really necessary, but it would help group the cards together better.

What if we do it SSB64 art style?

I second this motion.

RE: Trophies = Cards? - Tea - 02-17-2010

^Which style is this, the box art or the character select screen or what?

RE: Trophies = Cards? - Locked Achievement - 02-17-2010

Surely the art styles would vary between series? I mean, different characers suit different art styles, and sticking to one style makes it seem quite limited

Box art.

RE: Trophies = Cards? - D2S-Speed - 02-17-2010

The cartoon on the box art was beast, it showed how much SSB was a game kids enjoyed back then, but now...

It wasn't just the box art either. While the later Smash Bros. games obviously have rather nice graphics, the ones in the first game were extra colorful and saturated while the lack of detail made it look cartoony. While I certainly like the looks of Melee and Brawl, they really didn't retain that original cartoon like art style.

RE: Trophies = Cards? - Koopaul - 02-17-2010

Well I would go against the N64 style in some ways. I want the characters to look like the characters. Also we'd have to redesign over a hundred characters.

RE: Trophies = Cards? - Zabi - 02-18-2010

Every playable character will have 3 cards, right? You could just make one of those in SSB 64 style.

RE: Trophies = Cards? - Tea - 02-18-2010

But then what stlye would the others be in? It can't be a too different style.
