So hey, looks like an image of a new boss popped up out of nowhere.

I was expecting the leader of the bad guys to be a polar bear but it looks like that isn't the case. All my money is on a narwhal now.

It'll be a giant Orca

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Koopaul - 12-17-2013

What about a Yeti?

To most Nitneod fans all that exists is Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, and maybe Kirby.

There's no room for Donkey Kong. If DK is announced, it's like Nintendo announced nothing. Us DK fans are like outcasts or something.

Seriously, they bitched about Cranky right? But let's say there was an upcoming Zelda game everyone knew about ahead of time. There had already been a bunch of footage of the game and rumors of another playable character. Then on VGX, Reggie shows off footage of playable Sheik in that game. No one would bitch. There would be a thunderous roar of applause across the internet.

Are we absolutely sure that's a boss? He looks like he could just be a large enemy if they wanted.

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Koopaul - 12-17-2013

I he's probably a boss because they seem to be stuck floating down the purple river. Also did anyone notice the boss from DKCR, Mangoruby", in the background. Look carfully. Pretty cool cameo!

They should take this opportunity to make Eddie the Mean Old Yeti game-canon.

I mean, they won't... but I want them to >.>;

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Jermungandr - 12-18-2013

It looks like the yellow hearts Dixie gets you give you a sort of armor bonus. Like they give you up to four more hits in addition to the four hits you normally have (with partner).

Oh, and apparently Donkey can skip across water like Kiddy could in DKC3.

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - E-Man - 12-18-2013

I will miss Rare working on the Donkey Kong Country games (even though David Wise is composing the music), but I have reason to believe Retro has the series in good hands now. Considering that they are implementing new features and taking as many risks as Rare ever would (the absence of a certain gang of lizards is one of them), I see no major problems with this franchise anytime soon.

Still, it does make me wonder what the newer Donkey Kong games would be like if Rare was still the top banana for that franchise. Any speculations?

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Koopaul - 12-18-2013

Honestly, it seemed like Rare themselves was starting to head into a more odd feeling with DK. I hate to say it, maybe DK is better off with Retro?

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Jermungandr - 12-18-2013

I agree. We'd probably just have more DK64 style games from Rare. I don't dislike the 64 game but I think one is enough.

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Koopaul - 12-18-2013

DK64 was pretty much Banjo-Kazooie. It didn't have that DKC look and feel to it. And if you ever saw the beta footage for Diddy Kong Pilot or DK Coconut Crackers you can see Rare was going to continue to use that very Banjoish style. I love that style, for Banjo, but not DK.

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - E-Man - 12-18-2013

Fair enough. Rare had a good go with DKC and set the mold for Retro to shape into something awesome than it already is.

Since you mentioned Banjo, Koopaul, what would you think Banjo would be like if Retro also got their mitts on that IP?

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Ark Kuvis - 12-18-2013

If Retro got their hands on Banjo-Kazooie, it'd probably feel pretty natural. Wasn't Metroid Prime littered to the brim with secrets and things to collect? That's basically B-K in a nutshell. Though I've not got a handle on Retro's writing style, so I dunno if they'd be able to keep the classic humour that the franchise was known for.

(to keep my post somewhat relevant, holy hell my hype for this game is over the limit.)

RE: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - MrYoshbert - 12-18-2013

Funky's back! Since Cranky's playable now, he's going to be taking over the shop.

All we need now are Animal Buddies and we're golden.
