To display images on the forum just copy the link under "BBCode (message boards & forums)"

Well, as your first line-art, it's not bad at all, it is a bit jagged though, just clean up some of the lines a bit. Also, the head seems to be a bit smaller than the feet, in the recent Yoshi design the head is bigger than the feet, but I am guessing you based your design off Super Mario World, which would make more sense.

Okay, now onto the shading and the rest! Big Grin

RE: I'd like to learn - FinalSmash - 04-11-2014

I'm going to color it now.

Actually, the chest looks a bit too long, either that or the arms are too far down. Might wanna adjust that.

RE: I'd like to learn - E-Man - 04-11-2014

I'm very proud of you for achieving your first good outline, FinalSmash. Might I suggest you look at the outline and clean up some areas that look a bit jagged?

RE: I'd like to learn - FinalSmash - 04-11-2014

Thanks! Smile I finished coloring it: [Image: aXh0sZt.png?1] Now that I think about it, the arms are too far down. Thanks for alerting me Midi. Wink

You might want to put some highlights and shadows in there now. Keep going! Smile

To add to what Chris said about shading, try incorporating some hue shifting into your work.

The tutorial above gives some details about it. It's not much and I don't think it is completely perfect, but it's a start.

RE: I'd like to learn - FinalSmash - 04-12-2014

[Image: rGUbS6J.png?1] Is there any way to make it bigger without making it blurry?

RE: I'd like to learn - Chris2Balls [:B] - 04-12-2014

If you're using Paint, select all, resize, Ctrl+Shift+X to crop to new size.
I'd stick to that size or smaller for now. The bigger the sprite, the more tedious it is to keep it as pixel art.
I think the palette could do with more contrast, too.

Start again from scratch.
Mwahahahahahahaah!

No, um... you can use Paint or any other tool that doesn't apply any kind of smooth. Or deactivate it if it lets you do so (ex. GraphicsGale). Or try changing the image color depth to 256 colours (8bit, a.k.a. indexed colour).

Nice to see your sprite developing. Here is a little thing, after making a basic outline, and then coming to the cleaning, try to make curves like this
[Image: curvey.png]
Cleaning a line. Removing most irregularities, simpliflying the line. This is achieved by escalating the lenght of each sub-line, from small to big. It's one of these things that are easier to do than try and explain it.

RE: I'd like to learn - Level 1 - 04-12-2014

The lineart still looks a bit too jagged, also, I know Yoshi is supposed to be sideways, but there is no perspective of the other leg, or the other arm.

RE: I'd like to learn - FinalSmash - 04-12-2014

Well I mean the picture to show, not the actual sprite.

Okay, something's wrong. Whenever I try to upload the updated version, it's the same one as last time. I just did it through TinyPic this time. [Image: 3446opk.png]
