Wait, they use wands? In that case:

MAGIC.

My guess is that it's NOA material only and that Europeans, etc. adopted it. The Japanese translation for the Koopalings is "Bowser Kids", not "Bowser's Kids", but it's still hard to believe.

Ah yeah, and I've also wondered about Morton Koopa Jr.~

For the mother: I guess it's just like in Dragonball, Frieza has no mother and just King Cold who made him. Same goes for Piccolo, his father spitted an egg off his mouth and even Cell doesn't need a female counterpart to make kids. Furthermore, Yoshi in SMW can lay eggs without problems, so I don't see any need for a mother in this franchise.

I think that's because Metroid has a more established time-line and most things seem to follow on pretty nicely (except Other M - but that's a spin-off so I don't count it).

I don't think it matters if Bowser's kids are "his" or not. They live in his castle and genetic or not they're his kids. Yeah, parenthood over blood and all that. Until something is said in-game though I'm not counting it as cannon.

Wendy says hi.

While they're not Bowser's children (apparently), I always thought Bowser was their uncle. This could be true, but we'll never know until it is proven in-game. You can't rely on Miyamoto about this, because he might aswell be lying because he has to keep it a secret. Perhaps it's even a plot point somewhere in NSMBU, though that may be a little far fetched.

I knew Wart was Bowser's brother!

Plus Morton Koopa Sr.?

There was some point in my gaming life where I thought that Mario ultimately killed him in SMB3 and now fights his son in SMW (because the game guide for SMB3 didn't include the Jr.).

RE: Bowser has only one son? - Kriven - 09-24-2012

I just assumed that Morton Koopa was Bowser's Father, and MKJ was named after his grandpa.

RE: Bowser has only one son? - Ridge Troopa - 09-24-2012

That's typically the consensus, yes. If we assume adoption, though, Morton is named after his biological father.

Just like Mario killed the first Donkey Kong............ wait

I don't see that much to discuss here. Probably translation/localization error or maybe Miyamoto just found that him having 7 childrens would be awkward. Him being their uncle was what I always thought too.

Also I really don't see how you can't rely on Miyamoto on something as small as this. It's his freaking creation, he does what he wants, and frankly it doesn't change a lot for fans to be pissed about this.

We talk about this stuff on my other forums all the time.

You should see the "Is Cranky Kong DK's father or grandfather" debates that go on.

Not to mention there are still people who believe Mario came from Brooklyn!

Miyamoto has no understanding of his own creations most of the time. He's really just a figurehead.

RE: Bowser has only one son? - Gors - 09-25-2012

this is about as relevant as trying to figure out why Donald has three nephews if his brother/sister doesn't even exist

it's just a way of adding characters that are related to the base character without having to compromise him/her with a wife/husband. Nothing else to discuss here.

The way I think is that Bowser just took the koopalings under his wing. I see them as apprentices to the Koopa King rather than actual children. Though perhaps Bowser might consider them "children" depending on how close they are.

RE: Bowser has only one son? - TomGuycott - 09-25-2012

What I think I'd rather talk about is how they were implemented in New Super Mario Bros 2. From what I've seen they actually add an extra bit of flair to them. Granted, they ARE in most ways carbon copies of their NSMBW versions, but the extra bits added on makes it feel cooler.

But then again I'm a bit of a settler. :l
