They would have gone through Advance/Rush yes? The platformer should just bring a more primitive version of those types of games, it wouldn't be a large gap I don't think

people like sprites. they tend to have more life and character in the animation, they bring back nostalgia, and they have a timelessness to them that 3d can't really replicate, mostly due to it advancing at such a rapid rate. 3d is mostly defined by the limitations of the hardware, while even in SNES and genesis days sprites were more defined by the artist than the hardware limits

For me its not about the graphics its about how it feels.

I don't care if it looks like a classic Sonic game, I just want it to play like one.

And no new Sonic characters eiither...

It feels like it would have fit more.

But what about the kids who grew up on Polygons?
i couldn't care less for those extremely distinguished gentlemen.

And Sega couldn't care less for you.

See how that works?

RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Flame - 02-05-2010

Actually any companies couldn't care less about there fans.
They make games on how they want to make it and use gimmicks to gain more fans into there series.

Just like Blast Processing.

HOLY FUCK ITS 1991 ALL OVER AGAIN

RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Chutzpar - 02-05-2010

Koopaul is right.

I don't care if it's using 2d graphics or 3d graphics on a 2d plane, the only thing I give a fuck about is how it plays. If it plays like the old games and is enjoyable then I couldn't give a fuck what the graphics or music are like.

I mean, ideally the gameplay, graphics and music will all be good, but if I can only pick one, gameplay. Gameplay gameplay gameplay.

What the fuck is with people expecting a new game to completely conform to their personal standards? If Sega switched tack every time they got a new comment from one of you fucks the game would never ever get finished. It's possible for a game to be nostalgic and appealing to the old-school fans without just adhering 100% to absolutely everything in the old games.
We've established that the fast 2d platforming works. That is basically all people are asking for from the franchise. Maybe the new soundtrack will suck, maybe it won't. But squealing about how it will be WRONG because it is DIFFERENT is absolutely ridiculous.

I hate the idea that the old games are some kind of Cool Club and anyone whose first introduction to the series is the newer games is some kind of bottom feeder. You sound like aging goths for fucks sake.

RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Cobalt Blue - 02-05-2010

whats best is that all we have is a lot of hype and 3 seconds of a probably alpha stage of development game.

huzzah!

RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Chutzpar - 02-05-2010

Precisely! Casting any kind of judgement on a FEW SECONDS of footage is dumb dumb dumb.

RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Goemar - 02-05-2010

I think this game is more affected by the Sonic Cycle. I mean what are the chances of this, you know, actually being good given the last god knows how many Sonic games?

RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Chutzpar - 02-05-2010

Yeah, that's true. I'm still remaining quietly optimistic, though.

I fully expect to be disappointed.
:E

RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Rökkan - 02-05-2010

The thing that most annoys me atm is the Homming Attack.

WE'RE GOING BACK TO THE ROOTS but with modern sonic, homming attack, dashpads, air tricks, and a giant monster at the end of the game!!!!

No wait, the thing that most annoys me atm is the fact that probably Takashi Iizuka is a part of the project. Or even the head of the project, and the Sonic Heroes sfx on Sonic the Hedgehog 4's website seems to hint his involvement a bit.

It seems like they'll just reference the classics instead of doing a new game, with new concepts, ideas and features, but like the classics. But I'll still wait for more stuff, who knows SEGA might surprise me. But I must say I'm pretty unoptimistic towards this, even though the HD graphics are really pretty, even being just 3D renders.

Also, why are they using chiptune music with high-definition graphics? I don't understand this.
