For projects like this, I'd suggest having concept art before attempting to make sprites that way you have a finalized design instead of "winging it."

I think you'd be far better off if you didn't think about Pokémon. These sprites of yours have potential as anything but fakey-mons.
I'll be editing these if you don't mind, to give you an idea of what I mean!

Heres a new one that might give off the more "defensive" look that I was going for, I also changed the colors a bit, and fixed some of the shading.

I wish you would listen to Chris2Balls advice..that pose that he had for your character was godly. You should try to make such dramatic effects to your other creations. Like he said, these things have alot of potential and it seems you're limiting yourself by trying to make them as pokemon.

Hm. Your shading looks all over the place, you need to pick a light source. Right now I can't really tell where that is.

RE: A noobs new Fakey-mon - Toastfighter - 08-09-2011

Okay, redid the shading, and Im not trying to make a pokemon, or a fakemon, I misused the word in the title. It is intended for it's own game.

Getting a little better, but the lineart is very rough, and doesn't look natural in some places. Your shading is a bit flat and makes it hard to tell that the head is in fact a head, it looks like it's stuck to the body. I suggest re doing it at a 3/4 view or a side view.

sorry but I think you've missed this one because your sprite's pose still sucks badly

basically, try making his pose. See if it's comfortable and/or likely to be performed in real life. If it looks starnge, then something needs to be cahnged in your work.
