RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Pik - 10-08-2014

Alright, yeah, you're totally right about that. They're not going to magically appear like some people think they do.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Kriven - 10-08-2014

Honestly I think there's less DK elements being added despite the franchise's popularity because the majority of people view DK as a Mario property, and there's already a lot of groaning about there being too much Mario content in the new game.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Ark Kuvis - 10-08-2014

I doubt that, though. I think more of the reason to why there's not a lot of DK elements is mostly because there's not much to draw from DKC Returns.

If you played the 2011 Platformer of the Year, you'll notice that there's actually very few NEW THINGS in the game. In terms of characters, there's really only Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Dixie and Cranky wouldn't be introduced until Tropical Freeze, after all. If K. Rool was the boss of Returns, it'd make his chance of inclusion probably a bit more likely, but the enemies in that game were a bunch of wooden planks.

Meanwhile, Tropical Freeze was in development alongside Smash 4, in a completely different country. Retro Studios made these games, and it might've been hard for Sakurai to get in contact with these guys. The roster was determined waaaaaaay before DKC Tropical Freeze was announced, so Sakurai probably didn't know that Dixie was even relevant.

I think that we'll definitely see a Donkey Kong Returns stage though. Notice that Star Fox and Metroid have brand new stages? Those two franchises had returning Melee stages as well. It just sucks waiting for it, and DK Vine fans are nortorious for being a little impatient when it comes to their franchise.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - senjen - 10-08-2014

Just Preorder the wii u version with the gamecube bundle,

also i'm more sadden by having Lucas getting removed he was one of my mains in brawl and it's sad to see him go,

i wonder what earthbound/mother stage the wii u version will have.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - MrYoshbert - 10-08-2014

Gear Getaway being part of the soundtrack might very well indicate a new DK stage based on Returns, so the DK fandom shouldn't lose hope just yet.

Also, take a look at these two brief soundtrack listings for both versions on the official site.

We might indeed be getting that Great Cave Offensive stage.

btw, BullockDS and everyone else: I wasn't trying to look "cool" with my reply to Koopaul, nor was I implying that it wasn't okay for him to feel disappointed with minimal representation from a series he's a big fan of (hell, I'm pretty displeased with Sakurai for ignoring Wario's classic roots (his shoulder bash move is gone, for example) and just including Sticker Star-related Paper Mario trophies (which I don't mind, but at least acknowledge the other three games in the series). I was advising him to just tone down this reactionary worrywart attitude a tad, and not jump the gun with assumptions like "X franchise gets a stage before Y franchise, obviously Y franchise will get ZERO REP at all" whenever news pops up, especially when we know so little about the Wii U version at all. You'll ruin your perception of a game a lot more than you should if you constantly fret over things like this, and who knows? You could very well be surprised in the end.  Just wanted to clear the air, and I apologize for coming across as a jerk.

Same deal with Yoshi really. Yoshi is treated as its own franchise within the game, but there isn't much unique Yoshi-related content because it's seen as an extension of the Mario universe. The Yoshi and Donkey Kong franchises tend to be treated as if they are on the same level.

I realize you are upset with the choice of words he used, but in the end you are essentially agreeing with him. His point was that he doesn't blame the clone characters for this very reason.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Gors - 10-08-2014

I gave his post a second read and you're right: I focused more on his awfully sour choice of words and I am sorry for that.

Clone characters have been there since N64 (Luigi anyone?) and shouldn't be a problem when they're a small portion of the entire roster. You can't please both Greeks and Trojans, someone will always complain about the selection of the characters. While you're entitled to an opinion though, I think it's not all that healthy to focus so much on these 'faults' to the point of feeling personally insulted or worked up.

In other news, I'm kinda upset because all my friends are playing this game and I want to join them. But I can't buy games at all. Living in a city far from ' civilization' sucks, and my credit card doesn't seem to work.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Kriven - 10-08-2014

I'd welcome more clone characters provided they didn't eat into the number of movepools per game... Like a whole page on the CSS just for clones would be awesome. Hector as a heavier, stronger Ike, Dry Bowser as being more similar to Brawl Bowser in terms of stance, running (actually make him crawl though, because that would be creepy in an awesome way), pretty much any Animal Crossing character over Villager...

Edit: Dr. Mario and Dark Pit have been added to the site...

To be honest, I'm disappointed that the hidden characters are just being quietly plopped onto the website... I was looking forward to hearing Sakurai discuss them the way he has other characters and elements in the past. Really, if Nintendo and Sakurai released some kind of commentary companion book, just a compilation of Sakurai's thoughts on the various game elements included, that would be really interesting...

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Koopaul - 10-09-2014

Sakurai just commented about these characters.

Quote:This is like a free dessert after a luxurious meal that was prepared free of charge. In a restaurant with this type of service, I don’t think there’s anybody who would say, “Change this to a meat dish!!”

Bad analogy Sakurai. In a restaurant people are allowed to know what's on the menu and choose what they like. Don't try to surprise people with a hair-brained meal and expect everyone to love it.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Omega - 10-09-2014

Well Koopaul you know that old saying.

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Jermungandr - 10-09-2014

You're misunderstanding his analogy. The implication is that it's a FREE desert that was prepared for you as a surprise after you've completed the already-paid0for luxary meal. You didn't get to pick it, but it's a free bonus, so who's going to complain?

Except that you already know what the menu is (main dish) and you get extra characters you might like as a premade 'dessert'. You can dislike clones all you want, but it is a freebie character and hating on it will not make them go away, or be changed to another main dish.

I find the analogy funny and accurate because clones are both in playing sense and dev sense, 'extra' characters to make the character choice bigger.

Edit: Jermungandr explained it better with fewer keystrokes.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Koopaul - 10-10-2014

Ah okay, then how about this:

People aren't going to like your dessert if the main course was disappointing. No one would mind the clones if we had the big names we wanted.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Gors - 10-10-2014

The main course was all but disappointing in my opinion. Cant please everyone, not his fault if a couple people held their expectations high as heck and upset themselves.

RE: SUPER SM4SH BROS: WII U (Spoilers Warning) - Koopaul - 10-10-2014

High nothing. I just wanted a new DK character. Mario already has everything it needs, and I thought Sakurai realized that in Brawl when there were no new Mario characters and he focused more on other franchises that needed characters. So I was expecting the same. When I first saw the trailer for Rosalina I was pretty shocked.
