Mario Kart 8
#91
Can confirm, update went up at midnight in...some time zone. Downloading it now.

I was installing it this morning so I could come home and play it later...and I downloaded the update, assuming that was all I needed. It had an ETA of 14 minutes, so yeah - it could have been the update AND the DLC. It sped up somehow from 14 minutes to 2 minutes in a matter of seconds, so I was pretty excited

But nope, they're separate. As soon as you get into the MarioKart 8 menu (which it's now 4.0 btw) it asks you if you'd like to download the DLC...which has an ETA of 14 minutes...and that number doesn't budge Blank

...and then it has to install the damn update. argh

Welp, my amiibo are ready to go! Gonna scan the hell out of 'em.

EDIT: Download installed. This update is amazing.
The Villager now has the best horn in the game. It's tada.wav

But Isabelle's voice at the character select is really...weird. She lets out this weird...groaning bark of a sound. Ingame she sounds as cute as you'd expect a little dog secretary to sound, but it's just...really odd to pick her and she lets out an EUUURF

Also Villager amiibo unlocks a...weird costume. It's literally the same model as Fox's Mii Racer outfit, but the texture is different where there's little stitching-ears that pop out of the helmet (which has the same print as the Animal Crossing 3DSXL). But there's also a red scarf and a yellow jacket with the AC logo on it. It's...kind of a weird choice if you ask me.

Well, I got at least one star on every cup in 200cc. That was, like, hours ago and I'm still shaking!

I tried playing some 200cc. I'm terrible at it.

I think I know what to do for the next time I play, though. Drift braking and such.

I've learned that tricking every jump in 200cc can work against you. Like the first jump in Cheese Land, if I trick it, the boost screws up my drift around the following turn. Likewise, I sometimes cancel my drift boost to avoid shooting off the track.

This. It's torture. Finally, tight-turning bikes now turn way too loosely to properly finish half of these tracks. ):

I think this new DLC's really won my girlfriend over, lol. She was actually super-excited to see that there's an Animal Crossing track and also a subway-themed track in this DLC pack. She really liked all the courses the new DLC had to offer, and the Villager and Isabelle are icing on the cake. She now also wants me to get more amiibo so we can unlock all the outfits the game has to offer, lol

It's been a while since she's played so she came in like 6th every time though .-.
Maybe we should play MarioKart more often. :C

Also, is it just me or is the Villager a middleweight character? I find that he/she takes turns WAY too loosely to be a lightweight (like Isabelle). I didn't even bother using Dry Bowser, though

200cc is fast, but its easy. just played through mushroom cup just now and i got 52 points. not bad for my first try, i guess.

the dlc is cool, but why are the retro tracks and new tracks separated yet again?! retro tracks should just be in one, while the new tracks are in the other. i know its not that big of a deal, but its just one of the things that bother me with the dlc. other than that, everything is ggggggggggreaaaaaaat

Weird thing is using the brake in 200cc seems to be a bad idea, since you can't really turn while doing it and it'll slow you down too much to keep up with the CPUs. Quickly releasing the gas button and getting back on it works much better, especially if you're drifting and think you're about to hit the wall or something.

Edit: WHOA, using the brake WHILE drifting is a completely different story, you can fully drift through and even boost out of comers you normally couldn't.
It's even useful on 150cc!

What I find myself doing is a tactic I normally only use in Battle Mode: Gas, brake, and drift all at once to turn in place. Basically, I let inertia slide me along the track as I do so, letting me come out of it still at a decent speed.

200cc finally made the game enjoyable because driving skill takes slight priority over items again, something I haven't seen in Mario Kart for quite a long time.

Part of me wants to call you ridiculous for saying the game is fun only now, but at least you're enjoying a good game finally...

Help I've been playing until 3 : 30am and even the Worldwide rooms are completely empty at this point for 200ccDLC.

I didn't even know they had code for one player to be in a lobby by themselves

Literally I chose my map and nothing is happening

I'm impressed with what they've done with the new Baby Park.

Making the entire course anti-gravity and giving it a tilting feature was a pretty good move. By doing that, they managed to make it just as crazy as it was in Double Dash, if not more. Now we've got 12 racers bumping into each other and in a mad attempt to make it into first. It's absolute chaos, and I love every second of it.

- 200cc
- Bananas only
- Baby Park

You'll probably never laugh at a banana slip joke again.
