How would I go about extracting models from a pc game?
#16
Well, you can't just submit the .OBJ with no textures with it or anything. Tongue
Please read the submission guidelines, as well as this, what you could call a "model quality guide". It explains most everything you need to know about making your models acceptable on TMR.
Also make sure that the textures are in the same folder/directory as the model/s they belong to.
And one more thing, I know you've been through a lot already, but it would be very much appreciated if you could provide a .DAE with the bones and rigging too since it should be possible with the models being .PSK and all. It'll make your model much more useful for everyone. Big Grin

Okay! ;D Some of the DCUO Models are a little blurry, so I'm probably missing the High Resolution Textures. Once I find those, I'll rig them and export them as .dae models!

I really can't thank you guys enough, I didn't think that I would get this far, since I'm inexperienced with ripping and general modeling. Big Grin

They aren't already rigged? Blank
They should be. Unless Solink's weren't due to this game handling the models differently, .PSK models should always have their rigging.
So you just extracted these with that program and they were already .PSK right?

Hmm... They might be. I'll check when I get home. Wink
I just realized that I should have used uModel on the model files within the game's directory rather than copying them to another directory, so that explains my texture issues! Big Grin

Update:

Just had the chance to load the model. It definitely doesn't have a skeleton, but it looks like it should have exported with one. I used uModel on the models in the game install directory, and in the viewer, they had high quality textures, but when I export them, it gives me a bunch of errors about materials and such missing. I can post it if you want me to, but I don't want to take up a bunch of space for nothing. Maybe in a spoiler. Smile

So now I'm kind of stuck. It will only load the low resolution textures, which are really blurry, since the high res textures won't export. I hope that on the uModel forum, someone may be able to help me with this. Sad

I'll update once I hear something from them. Thank you for your help! Big Grin

Got it! I figured out that umodel needed to be in the COOKEDPC directory so that it could find the textures and it exported just fine! I haven't found any traces of a skeleton within the models, though, but it might just be because I'm not familiar with the 3ds max interface. Oh, well! I'm just glad that I ripped it successfully!

Hooray! Now you can post a submission thread and we'll see if you're good to go. Big Grin
I'm sure they do have bones/rigging, but I guess you'll find out once Peardian checks them.

Awesome! So, to include the textures, should I include the files that came with the .psk file from uModel? Or are they included in the .dae?

There should be separate files for the textures yes (are there? And are they in .PNG? If they are in .TGA then they will need to be converted).
Those have to be included in the same folder as the model.
While the .DAE usually stores texture data on the model, you always want to have the spare textures there in case anything goes wrong or someone needs to texture the .OBJ.

I found the textures and they are in .tga format. Big Grin

Sorry that I didn't respond in a while, I've been super busy with other stuff. I also managed to import the model to brawl last night, and although my rigging is really bad, i'm so glad that I actually did it! Smile

If I convert them to png, will I have to retexture everything?
