Awesome job, BBM!
By the way, is there any particular reason for uploading these as zips?
And would it be possible to try and name them like they are on the site (gamename_sheetname and gamename_sheetname_icon) with no capitals? It'd just save a bit of time.

Once again, fantastic!

Ok. I didn't really know that's how it was done, so thanks for the heads up.

Does this mean that Legends is done now? That's awesome beyond belief.

Still have the secret dungeon to rip. It'll be done shortly, along with a boss that you seem to have missed called the executioner.
The dungeon and executioner.

The place is rather short, which is quite a relief. Though the executioner boss is horrible. It's not hard because of the limited space you have, but rather because the boss takes up too much of the friggen screen. For Pete's sake, you've got barely any space to dodge!

Well that wraps it up for Legends. I guess I'll start ripping from the overrated castlevania 4 now.

Excellent rips as always.

I actually agree with Castlevania 4 (which I believe is another remake of Castlevania) being a bit of the overrated side and with you and Smithy working on each game, it seems the Castlevania section is getting smaller.

Fantastic! That wiped off a HUGE chunk of the Ripping page.
Nice work!

Though I really think the most overrated game in the series is Symphony of the Night (don't get me wrong, I still love the game), it'd be nice to see all of the stages to CV4 ripped. As it stands, I've only gotten around to completing two of them. <=P

SotN is great, if not a bit overrated. Not that I wouldn't mind seeing another game similar to it. The recent ones just haven't lived up to the first attempt at Metroid-vania.
That said, I love Castlevania 3 as well.

It's just that sotn was groundbreaking in every category. So much variety and the upside down castle made it so lengthy, which is why I'm in favor of it.

Castlevania 4 on the other hand is just not that great. Sure there's high graphical quality, but fans and critics just overlook the flaws like the stiff animation, lame soundtrack, unmemorable backgrounds, and don't get me started on that giant plot hole at the intro which doesn't even make any sense.

Also tonberry2k, to answer your question, since the upcoming castlevania game will be like sotn and simon's quest, I doubt it'll disappoint. Since 20 areas + 20 inverted areas = 40 altogether, the game could be epic. Though I'm worried that there might be a box popping up out of the air causing the game to stop for 10 tedious seconds, and that I'll die if I fall in the water. Sad

I like 4, but I don't overlook its faults. I like SotN, but I don't overlook its faults either. No game is perfect and I can say the same thing aboutSotN's supporters overlooking Sotn's flaws.

I saw the inverted castle as one of those flaws actually. The game just throws you into it without even explaining WHY it's even there in the first place, the characters act like "oh, there's a castle in the sky, upside down, it's always been there", and the inverted castle has no direction to it at all. You are left GUESSING where to go.

The music. It's just not Castlevania. I mean, it's supposed to be gothic and it doesn't fit what Castlevania has been all along. Rock guitars? And what about that unfitting ending theme? "I am the Wind"? It sounds like something out of the Weather Channel or some generic anime. Now, don't get me wrong. I did like the Royal Chapel and a few other themes as they did suit Castlevania itself rather well.

The difficulty or lack thereof also brings the game down. Castlevania has been in a steady stroll toward Kirby series level of difficulty ever since IGA took the reigns. Don't believe me? Whatever happened to the Castlevania feeling where you were basically at the game's mercy every step of the way? Whatever happened to actually feeling satisfied in beating the game?

The voice acting and translation. Say what you want about how quotable it is, the characters sound bored to death and the campyness doesn't suit Castlevania at all. Castlevania is a dramatic series in which the gravity of the situation should speak for itself. Cheesey lines belong in games like Contra because that was pretty much what the game was founded on. When you first play the game and hear the dialogue in the beginning, you're like "wahahaha! This game is so funny!" but as you play the game, you realize it's like this through the whole game. It's hard to even take the story or even the characters seriously at all because of how poorly the translation is done.

Unnecessary mechanics. Come on. Don't tell me you ever found those Street Fighter like "spells" actually useful. Especially during a boss fight. Those Monster Vial items are also kind of irreelvent as well as the Holy Sword Summons. Do we really use them? Do we need to? You basically summon weak enemies with these monster vials... why? You don't need them. If you think you can build an army, don't let the crushing reality of a high item drop rate destroy your dreams.

Can't discard unnesecarry items. A minor nitpick but it would've been handy. I mean, there's no way I'm going to use all 32 of those Red Rusts I collected. :p And don't get me started on how I'm supposed to wear those 87 Cloth Tunics I found.

The rest of my complaints are pretty much other minor pet peeves and annoyances (among them the very generic transformation magic sound effect mixed in with all these out of place cartoony sounds).

All in all I do like Symphony of the Night even though it sounds like I hate it (otherwise, why would I have ripped so extensively from it in the first place?). It just has a bunch of flaws, just like all games, that people deny exist just because every elitist gamer says so or whatever reason. There isn't enough criticism of the game and that is why I call overrated.. I have a right to be critical of every game in the series, even the ones I generally like.

I mean, I even found Adventures enjoyable to an extent. And the list of complaints for that game is twice as long as Symphony's at least, so that MUST mean, I must like Symphony still.

Now, for 4, I don't have to list my gripes with it because you already did that for me. There is one thing though, there isn't a plothole as 4 is just another remake of 1. The localization team for whatever reason, decided to make that decision to call it yet another sequel here in America.

I agree with most of those points. Though unintentional humor always gave me a good laugh. About the difficulty though, it sorta has been increasing little by little since DoS and PoR.

Oh yes, and about that plothole, I know it's really not one, I just felt like ranting about it because the whole "Dracula comes back to life every 100 years, and so Simon must defeat Dracula again." thingy which means if it takes place 100 years after Simon's Quest, then that would technically mean that Simon is a century old. Therefore, that's kinda what I meant by it not making any sense. Tongue
