Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title

No. I'm realizing this now. I thought everyone wanted root game play. Now I'm hearing SEGA said it was gonna have 3D models and that's a good thing to the fans. People want to keep the track to Genesis ROCK people are saying vocals are good? SO basically, my original take is everyone just be glad they're still trying is in effect?

Well if they're using chipsets then that's not going to happen anyway.

Aside from that, even Sonic 3 had 'yeah's and 'woo's; and the majority of OSTs now have at least one track with lyrics as a standard. I can't help feel that's kind of... a lame sentiment on your part.

I just hope the game has really memorable music, a lot of the stuff from CD(jap)/Sonic 3 was really fantastic.

dibs on that at least ONE track from the game will be memorable to everyone.

and that IS a fact from any sonic game. fanboy or not. it just happens~♪

Positive talk on a Sonic game...?

on any game, in general. the whole series, disregard of their later incarnations, have at least one or two tracks that are either catchy or well performed(or at least well placed into their respective stages/context).

take live and learn from SA2, for example. you could fight every single last boss battle in the 3D versions of sonic and it just fits nicely in most of them. but i doubt someone wants to fight that eggrobot at the end of sonic 2 with that on the background.

I think the ONLY Sonic game with bad final boss music was Secret Rings. The fact that they used the exact same song for nearly every menu in the game made it feel so much less epic than it had the potential to be.

If that's what you are getting at then I am up for that tbh.

Yes and no.

I'm actually saying make it more like sonic 3 and have the music better fit the levels. Perhaps genre was the wrong word, though as I said, having more than just rock in every level definitely can't hurt. In my opinion, pretty much the only music in Sonic Adventure 2 that truly matched the theme of the levels were rogue's and knuckles' themes, rapping and all. I'm not saying that the rest of the song were bad; quite the opposite. I love the SA2 OST, but the music just didn't match up as much as the classic games did. Get it?

What I mean is basically, match the feel of the music to the feel of the level.

Angel Island act 1 felt tropical. It had the steel drums thing going on, and you really felt like you were on an island.
Act 2 turned hip hoppy, but it managed to still feel tropical.

Carnival night had carnival-inspired music, obviously.

Ice cap had a "wintry" feeling to it.

Launch base? It managed to fit a "flying" feel in it with the horns that come in at 32 seconds.

Even in sonic 2, Sky Chase was a relaxing sky ride; it made you feel like you were in the sky.

Oil ocean felt like you were in a desert.

Sandopolis zone pulled this off as well.

Get what I'm saying?

Even limiting yourself to sixteen instrument tracks can be challenging when not working with actual instruments.
Also, I completely agree with this. I honestly prefer the chiptunes if they can really give it the old Sonic feel.

Ah, well it's good that they're not entirely restricting themselves to 16 bit. And itr's taking level elements from Sonic Advance, which is also very good.

Sonic looks really slow again, though. And it's already stated that there's gonna be no boost meter or Zip Pads. =\

They need to fix that running animation. I don't like the return of the Homing Attack. I'm also fairly disappointed that they didn't decide to use hi-res 2D sprites (despite how expected that is). Seems to be shaping up pretty well for an alpha, however.
Thanked by:
The homing attack hasn't been used in the 2d games, as it? It's not a bad mechanic, but it's kind of unnecessary in a game with no depth perception. That said, it could be implemented very cleverly if they do their stage design right. And Sega usually does that just fine.

well, I'm properly excited now. and it's coming to Wii.

why episodic though? that's the biggest turnoff for me right now...I really don't like episodic games. it seems so random for this sort of game.

you could technically use the homing attack in sonic advance 3 if you had the right combination of characters but it wasn't much more than a novelty.
