I edited a sprite sheet of Link and made him Claude from GTA and it got rejected because "it doesn't meet the quality standards". What did I do wrong? Attached is the sprite sheet.

The reason the admins rejected you is because you made a sprite edit. To quote the thread "SPRITING DICTIONARY (and resources)," located at the top of this board

Quote:One tip on how to make a good sprite edit is to modify it a LOT until the base is completely unrecognizable.

Your sprites of Claude, however, are clearly modified from Link sprite in Zelda II. For example, in the image below, you can see that Claude's standing pose is almost identical to Link's minus a few superficial changes (like Claude's hair and clothing, or editing the sword into a baseball bat). This is the reason your sprite sheet was rejected.

If you want to try again, I recommend making an original sprite that emulates the style of Zelda II instead of simply drawing over Link's sprite. For example, you could analyze sprites of Link, the NPCs, enemies, anything similar to Link, etc, and see how they are designed. For example, determine the sprites' proportions, their coloring, their animations, and determine how you can use those traits, and the limitations of the NES, to your advantage. Finally, determine what you want to convey with your sprites. For example, do you want to lean more towards the Zelda II style and maintain the same poses Link has, or try to lean into the style of GTA III and portray that game's actions. (I know I didn't really explain this well, but I'm trying to say that determine how much you want to stick to the style you're trying to emulate.)

Hope this helps.
It's not even so much that it's jut as edit, as it's a sloppy one. There are great edits out there. But this removes all the detail from an already pretty simplistic sheet and makes it into a guy with a black shirt and green pants. You'd never look at that sprite and know who it is.
