I want to start uploading sheets myself here, but the sprites I'm ripping seem to use transparency so I don't think a colored background would work right. are transparent backgrounds allowed?

I wouldn't recommend them as users like me who utilise Paint would get a solid black color, which is harmful if black is a core color of the object and the object doesn't have a defined selectable space.

What sprites are you ripping?

Craver's Honeycome Havoc, A Postopia game I'm working on along with other branded browser games since nobody else is focusing on those.

Yes, use a transparent background since they're anti-aliased sprites.
