The VG Resource

Full Version: RSS Feed not working???

For some reason, at least starting today, I'm now incapable of opening the RSS Feed on any of the VG Resource sites!
Instead of opening the page in a new tab, my browser instead tries to get me to download the .php file!
At first, I thought this was just an issue with Firefox, but I went to test it in Microsoft Edge, and it ALSO didn't work properly.
However, Internet Explorer (wow), DOES open the RSS Feed properly...

Then, I thought maybe Firefox updated and mucked something up, but other webpages in .php format open just fine. It's only the VG Resource RSS Feed pages that don't open properly anymore???

EDIT: Also confirmed with someone else, I found that Google Chrome DOES open the RSS Feed in a new tab... however it just displays the raw code, instead of the actual page
On my end it just downloads it rather than showing it also
You were right the first time. Firefox used to provide a built-in RSS reader but they removed that feature in one of their most recent updates. As far as I know, barring IE apparently, no modern browser natively opens RSS feeds any more. You'll need to use a feed reader (either a stand-alone application or one of the many services available online).

Wow, that sucks
Frikken, all these things browsers are removing support for, it makes me so upset!
I hope there's a nice lil' firefox extension that can re-add the functionality
EDIT: found one, yay!

I wonder if there's a way to get the RSS Feed functionality to work in some kind of format that browsers DO support?
Ooh, which extension did you get Molly?

It's called "RSSPreview" for firefox, and it basically just replicates how firefox USED to read rss feeds

This isn't really possible. RSS is a set standard and uses XML to present information in a way that a feed reader can process it (similar to how in HTML, you might type <strong>Text</strong> to produce Text in the browser). Without support to handle that rendering, at best, you'll get the raw source and at worst, a prompt to download the file. The extension you found is your best bet for continuing to browse the feed(s) in your browser.
Thanks for the recommendation Molly, works like a charm! Genki ^_^
