Full Version: What are the easiest platforms to rip from?

Heya, a newbie here, thinking about getting into model ripping, and I might as well ask, anybody know which platforms are the easiest to get started with ripping models from?

Cause, I'm a novice with 3d, I work mainly in TinkerCAD and Sculptris; can't even work my head around Blender, so I might as well start with the simplest ones.

Also, might as well ask out of sheer curiosity, what're the most difficult ones to rip from? I'd presume the old; old 3d from stuff like the Jaguar/3DO/Super FX chip is high up along with the arcade/Dreamcast/Xbox stuff that doesn't even have enough for its own section.
Oh i misread the title xD i guess i should restate what i said then XD, for easiest platforms to rip from id have to say nintendo ds,because it has alot of programs made for ripping from it, and most ds games use a standard format for models, but not all, ive ran into one or two that have no clear model type so far but generally they arent to hard to find, along with the textures and animations, i mainly use 2 programs to find and extract the files from the game and view those to find the model files within, teh first being called Console tool 3 which basically can read and open nds files and let you extract the contents, while it may not always extract some with proper extensions it really helps pinpoint the location of model files and stuff. and then tinke which i use mainly to locate and iirc unpack the files to hopefully pull the model, texture and animation files out. Another easy platform to rip from is android, seeing as apk files can easily be unzipped in winrar, and if they have a obb cache file and were made in unity, extracting that using win rar basically shits out every single asset from those files.
You know, now that you mention the Super FX chip – how many games were there anyway that utilised it for polygonal 3D stuff? There can't be too many... I think Star Fox model format has been figured out already.
But yeah, I'd say SuperFX games are among the hardest because there's —no— standardised catch-all or even catch-some method of ripping the models. Every individual game must have a specialised tool written for it. The same goes for PSX, sure, but at least there's TMD and you get a filesystem to begin with.

Yep, there were basically only a tiny handful. Aside from the 2 Star Foxes, Dirt Trax FX used 3d models for the track but not the racers, Stunt Trax FX and Dirt Racer both used 3d models for their cars (Tho I recall Stunt Trax used sprites for the wheels), and Vortex (The one I'd super love to see rips from) used it for the robot-stuff.

So, given the variety of games was tiny there, I can see it being plausible to develop individual ripping tools for all of 'em.

Tho, also out of curiosity, what is the ripping situation with the original Xbox and the Dreamcast, along with arcade games in general? Like, I'd presume the variety of arcade boards would make ripping from there difficult (Tho god I'd love to see somebody rip CarnEvil's models), but is there some factor to the Xbox and Dreamcast that I don't know about?
