The VG Resource

Full Version: Should Western AAA properties get more love?

There is a general rule of thumb of VG Resource:

If it isn't a Japanese RPG, anime game or retro (style) platformer, don't expect it to ever be ripped.

I check out games like COD, GTA V, TLOU, Batman Arkham, Borderlands,  Overwatch etc. and well, there's like 2 major character models at most with disappointing filler in each.

I find it so sad. Such popular games are completely neglected while obscure JRPGs like Digimon and Neptunia have hundreds. Not sure how that works.

I find this site will erupt even more in popularity with the SFM, modeler and artsy crowd if way more AAA Western stuff gets ripped. The state the site is atm isn't ideal for the gamers who appreciate this stuff (like myself). I'm quite open with what I like but there needs to be more outside of anime/platformers.

I love you guys but I'm slightly disappointed.
work for it, then
i wanted to rip something more western myself but i want to finish my current projects before

I've actually been busy on other projects and as an artist, I find these models really helpful for my work. I just don't have time for all the ripping. I've actually been paying people to do it for me hahaha. Smile
So what you're saying is that you're too busy, but you want other people to rip the things you like and not what they like. Because that will make the site more popular.

I get you aren't trying to come across as a bit of a dick, but you currently come across as a bit of a dick...
I'd also like to point out that there is no "general rule" about what we rip here. Everything on the site is user-submitted and people will rip from whatever they want. We can't force people to rip from certain games nor do we have any interest in doing so. As has been pointed out, if you want specific content that isn't already here, your best bet is to rip it yourself (or, as you've pointed out, pay someone to rip it and submit it here).
....money?!?
I can rip those games under some $$$ if you really want Cute

if you want I can make a model rip quickly to give a sample...
What game do you want?

Stop with this nonsense now.

...you missed the point
just for curiosity, nega, how much you pay for those rips?
and where are your models?
Well there's the thought that if no one rips for the niche games no one else will do them. Another issue is the size of most AAA games, most don't have the time to work with all the files those games may have. There's also the issue that not every game ripper is part of The VG Resource team, so they never post them here, or want to keep them private, so they never post them at all. Oh, and the immensely higher risk of DMCA takedowns.
There is the issue that this is just another "people are doing things I don't care about instead of what I want" topic.

Despite the fact I've been saying this for ages

Can I get a source for this rule thanks

The main problem here is that it's reflective of what the site's submitters' tastes and wallets are. Typically people who are passionate enough to learn about these ripping techniques most likely don't have interest (or a wallet deep enough) for Western AAA titles, so the NBA2Ks and Grand Theft Autos don't get as much love as they should (despite the fact that SFM enthusiasts would eat it right up) whereas the Neptunia titles that you can get for $7 during a sale are more likely to be checked out

Like...what you're saying is kinda true, but there's no need to be so smarmy about it lmao. If you've got friends into Western AAA properties who'd be interested in ripping from those games or learning how to do it, we'd be happy to help you figure out your way around the file structures and vertices, but so far...

nobody's really done that.
fuck it, i'm ripping san Andress.
If someone has some suggestion for western AAA games say it out loud
The Witcher. Nuff said.
The problem is that AAA devs usually don't want their models to be ripped because of they want people to follow copyright.

Really hard to get some love for these models from western properties if they are really hard to reach at the first place.
That's rarely the problem. The "issue" is either that the people doing the ripping aren't interested in the same games you are or that ripping from current AAA games is impossible at the moment (as is the case with the Switch, for the most part).
