Full Version: Trying to rip sprites from Windslayer

Hello! I thought it would be cool if we could somehow save all the art from the old game Windslayer, since it is a completely abandoned game.

I have all the files from the game, but I can't find any way to open them.

The file system seems relatively open. This is what the folders look like:

The graphics are saved as .hsi, .hsc, .hsc1 and .hsc2 files.

I tried opening the files with a text editor to see if it would give any clue, but the only thing I could find in the scrambled mess was that all of them had a "temp_file" line close to the top.

I also tried opening them in TiledGGD, but it's just a mess of pixels just like if you open any random file with it.

So if anyone could give some tips or figure out how to extract the sprites, that would be amazing!

I attached a .zip with some files if anyone wants to check them out.

They're just ZIP files, you can extract them by either changing the extension or with 7-zip with the right-click menu. Unfortunately the files in them are all called temp_file so you'll need to rename the files when you extract them.

These files are more analysable, TiledGGD gives some indication of their format, I think they're 8bpp but I don't know where the palettes are.
Oh that's interesting. Extracting them is definitely a huge step in the right direction!

I have never used TiledGGD before but I'm trying to fiddle around with it as best I can.

There are some other files in the main folder that might be needed for this, that I didn't mention earlier.
For example, there is a "hair001.hsi" in the main folder and I thought maybe that one is supposed to be the palette? But when I try it, it doesn't work.

There are also these files in the main folder that could be needed:

I'll attach some more files that seem like they could be important.

Alright here is a small update. I managed to find a find a download for WindSlayer2, which I think was supposed to be a sort of sequel or re-release of the game that never made it out of beta IIRC. The files are very similar, but one big difference is that each item is not split into 3 different files. So figuring those out might be an easier task.

I'll attach some examples of those files.

This is the weapon you start out with in Windslayer2, which might be the 001 weapon. I figured it might be useful to know.
