Avast also tends to detect keygens, every exe you download ever, the system32 folder, and certain ads as trojans

Thats why you use a good name like norton or mcafee Tongue.
That's relative. For example I started to use Avast because Norton and Mcafee started to slow down my machine, I don't know about him.
In some anti-virus you can register 'exceptions to the rule'. My Avast used to go crazy every time I installed IRC. So I had to register an exception ("don't mess with the mirc.exe file"), but now it started to be a bitch and harder to configure, so I switched to AVG. So far, so good.
