I have no problems at all ripping the Lost World models or textures, just wondering how to rip the skeletons.

The skl.hkx are the Havok's engine's Skeleton files. Since these skl.hkx files are a newer version, you need to go and convert them to an older version using this:

Then you can convert the models and skeletons together using modelfbx.

Are you trying to open it directly from the Windows Explorer? If so, that's not the right way to do it. You have to use the "dreaded Command Prompt" to use it! It's a command line program that requires options to be entered into it from the command line.
creating a .bat file with the command in it usually works well too
