Full Version: Persistent spline width? (3D Rendering Q)

I've been thinking my way around figuring out rendering styles in 3ds max for a Pseudo-2D type of effect and I was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge about this particular idea I've been trying to implement.

The idea is that I would have a 3D model set up with splines linked to it. While the camera moves towards and away from the object, the splines would render the same line width regardless of distance from the camera.

Would I have to find a way to set this up or is there this kind of functionality included in any 3D package?

I would use the Ink n' paint material, but some of the results that it gives are at times unpredictable and often end up looking rather messier than I would like. I've also looked around for this type of effect, but I'm not entirely confident that the search terms I've been using have been used.
I think what you're looking for is an orthogonal camera projection. It should be something very simple to do, but I don't have 3Ds Max so you'll have to google it yourself.

~By the way, an ortho projection is how 2D games are made, it's not "psuedo".

If you mean to have the effect on a single specific object, not the entire scene, then I don't know, sorry.
It's similar, but I want objects to be capable of being projected in perspective, but for splines to have a consistent width when rendered.

Here's a mock-up of what I mean. (animated in flash to illustrate what I'm trying to say)

Notice how the lines remain the same width regardless of the distance to the "camera" while still retaining the ability to show things in perspective.
Hm, I'm not entirely sure how to do what you need. Honestly, I don't even know what splines are in 3ds Max terms.(Before I spent a minute to google it...)
