Part two of Dealin with Dinos.
[Image: the_clean_up_crew_by_gardow-d8ey8h6.png]
We call them the Clean-up Crew.
Done quite a bit faster than the T.rex, all in one night. Opted for a less speculative route. Not quite the biggest specimen, but still a farily big bloke, I decided to go for less saturation to add some contrast between him and the T.rex, except for the frill obviously.

Up next is probably a fuzzy giant pterosaur.
only bit kinda annoying me is that the blood in both pieces feels like it's transparent, which always kidna bugged me on sprites. but that might just be preconceptions from me I need to fight against.
On the T.rex it was meant to be a mixture of blood and drool, and the janitor is using water, but I have no excuse for the Triceratops horns. Will get right on that.
EDIT:

shine should be white no matter the color of the steel, unless it isn't polished. It feels weird seeing Shovel Knight shining white while this guy isn't.

talking about more white specular shine,

a little on her armor would be good.

I feel her face could be better. I'll attempt an edit to show what i mean.
I don't think the semi-transparentness suits the style of the Dinosaur sprites, other than that - they look freaking sweet. Would love to see a fully animated jousting one with the rider. As for the tail-stiffness argument, they're freakin' jousting dinosaurs - scientific accuracy can go sit in the corner and cry.
I may go back to Shovel Knight soon, but for now, more dinosaurs and other dead things!

[Image: breathe_deep__fall_down_by_gardow-d8fc29n.png]
Breathe deep, fall down.

I always really liked the giant pterosaurs in Dinotopia as a kid, so when I decided to make one I had to put the size ref janitor on it. Decided to go for a slightly different route after all. Since I did feathers and scales in the last pieces, this time it's fuzz.

This is based on both Hatzegopteryx and Quetzalcoatlus, time will tell if they are the same species or not. Up next, a daring mix of classic art and memes!

Obligatory clever girl joke.

Had to do it soon as I thought of it. The janitor as the thinker and philosoraptor back to back, how could I not?
And last but not least:
Because sometimes savage murder can be cute.

Crested raptors, because why not? I find the Utahraptor to be the most interesting, with the short tail. I may open its mouth to display the funny bottom jaw.
Have to find good poses for these, probably taking down the janitor for allying himself with the featherless mutant. They may be cute but they're dicks I tell you.
I'd like to see these with 1:1 pixel aspect ratio. But I do enjoy the amount of research going into making the dinosaurs closer to accurate than what many folks attempt.

(if you do Dilophosaurus and give it the JP frill, I'll disown you though.)
Made a little line-up of the ones I've done so far.

THE CIIIIIIIIIIRCLE OF LIIIIIIFE.

I might do something different next before Shovel Knight and a Spinosaurus that's I've been pushing back since the T.rex.

EDIT: made the image a link in case it shows smaller than x1.
Had a bit of an art block so back to Shovel knight for a while.

Completely new yet all the same!

For a little while now I've gone back and forth tweaking my first Shovel Knight sprite, so today I decided to just start over, even if it may not be apparent. C&C would be very much appreciated.
I might go back and fix up or redo some others. Shield Knight and Mole Knight come to mind.
Been a while since I posted anything, so I guess I should show off my Super Shovel Knight updates.

[Image: the_order_of_no_quarter_by_gardow-d8sj3ec.png]
Same as it ever was. Yet new!

Plague Knight and Moleknight were redone from scratch, the rest are edits and palette fixes of my previous take on these guys. Then taking the input posted here by Gors, I decided to have another go at the Black Knight, and gave Shield Knight her own shiny idle animation as well.

[Image: shield_knight_by_gardow-d8t3yf5.gif][Image: shiny_rivals_by_gardow-d8sz6em.gif]
Shield & Shovel Co-op mode anyone?

Also decided to do new takes on some of my favourite enemies, namely the Goldarmor and the Hoverhaft, and give them small animations.

Just look at'm go!

He sure likes revving that propeller.

And then I threw some extra love Tinker Knight's way, with a little animation of him riding the mobile gear.

Conquering his inner spark mandrill syndrome.

At the end of it all, I decided I'd try and make a mock-up of arguably the most memorable sequence(s) in the game: Catching Shield Knight.

[Image: 286372e70f11ee25b2b439a0f5d805c1-d8tznyy.png]

Aside from the Goldarmors which I had already made, and the horn icon in the HUD, everything was made from scratch for this piece. Considering this is my first actual mock-up, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

I was working on a lot of pixel art after this, including other Super Shovel Knight mock-ups, when my laptop crashed. Being a fool, I had not made any backups of any of these WIPs yet, and had barely shown off anything for C&C even among trusted friends. A lot of pixel art I wanted to share was lost that day, which really had me demotivated for quite a while. And so for the longest time, this was the last pixel art I had made.

That was, until the great free Plague of Shadows DLC happened.
[Image: super_plague_knight_by_gardow-d9baght.gif]
Hee hee hee! My free DLC is better than the original campaign!

What can I say? I really loved this new expansion for Shovel Knight, so I just /had/ to sprite something. In the end I decided to replicate the animation of his cloak blowing in the wind, and as with Shovel Knight include all the armors/alt palettes. I personally found the green one to be the most useful/fun, bouncing off of walls just added even more joy to many a bomb burst. I don't exclude the possibility of maybe trying another mock-up, maybe I finally learned my lesson and will make back-ups this time around, right? ... Right?

And now, since I didn't know where to squeeze this on, here's Canon Knight, combining the blue bomber with the cerulean ...coward. Maybe quoting Black Knight wasn't the best idea here...

Poor guy must be deaf by now.

Won't really do anything with this, but I had fun making it nonetheless. And that's all I have to share for now, thanks for dropping by in my topic. Feel free to give C&C, I try not to have it go in vain and use the input to make each next piece better. Cheers!
Hoooooly crap. These are gorgeous. Have you tweeted them to Yacht Club?

Too kind! Unfortunately I'm not on twitter, though fellow pixel artists seem to be pushing me a bit to get one lately. Never really thought of Twitter as a place for pixel art, especially considering I'd only post something new every half a year.
Updated Tinker Knight with a new faceplate based on the little animation I did.

So is he the Wily or the Spark Mandrill of SK?

Quite prefer it over the old one. I also might make a new Super Shovel Knight mock-up soon.
So while ago I made a sprite of a Shovel Knight themed Batman dubbed "The Dark Knight" and decided to have another go at it recently. At first, I tackled it in that "Super" Shovel Knight style I've become used to.

I am the clunky night.

And then it hit me. For how much love I throw at this game, I've never actually tried to sprite in the official style. I've even had debates with friends about why I feel a Shovel Knight sequel should remain 8-bit rather than take the Super route, and yet that's all I ever did myself. So then this happened.

I'm not the OC this fandom deserves, but I'm the one I could come up with at 4AM.

Personally, I like this one a lot more. It's got everything the 16-bit take has without the mess. After this, I remembered I had made another fan-knight not that long ago.

C'mon Shovel Knight he's right there, just bounce on his head!

Again, I like the outcome a lot more, even if the Super versions are shinier and all that. The big blast and cannon ball come straight from the game, as I tried to keep in line with the cannons you run into in the Flying Machine. There's no real conclusion here, have a nice day? Lets go with that, have a nice day.
Oh man. These interpretations are fun. Any plans for Arthur from Ghosts n Goblins or Samus in this style?
