i watched captain n on you tube and i found although it fell prey to some flaws common to that time  that it was quite a good concept and not badly done. so  i was thinking that if given a good writing team someone could make a pretty decent revamp of the series what do you guys think?
I don't think it has much of a future in animation or film, but I can see a Captain N comic book being pretty good.

ya that would be interesting but i think your thinking that i mean just recycle the old shows cast and overall plot just with better writing  and animation which isent what i mean at all. the show is very old  so i dont think given its age that anybody would mind changing the cast and story a bit  different main character  different game characters for the team and mostly different villens.

i would keep  mother brain and princess lana in  lana was a good character  and would fit in well today mind you with some weapons and skills of her  own. i would also make mother brain more game cannon and have her teamed up with more  compatant villens that are more like her equals and ditch the version made for the origanal captain n. also a less episodic storyline.
I'd think a reboot of the show would be interesting, having the characters and other assets being more accurate to the actual artwork and games back in the NES era.

All in all, I'm pretty neutral on it.

Now you're getting into more typical reboot fodder, which always leaves me wondering why a person bothered to reboot at all instead of... well, making something different with inspirations derived from something else?

"Well, let's have a new Captain N, but get rid of Captain N."

I can understand replacing the N-Team with different characters or more faithful interpretations of the characters... I can even understand getting rid of Game Boy and relegating the dog to "Castle Pooch", but when you want to eliminate the main character of the franchise, you should probably just create a new franchise. Same if you want to change their personality into something totally different. I don't mean don't make Kevin a more realistic goofball of a character, but it's really not going to be Captain N if you take Kevin and make him a drug addict or a goth... it's not the same character anymore. It's somebody else with the same name.
As a Nintendo fan... No.

but that's exactly what they did in the tv show in the first place. captain n was first a comic in nintendo power but when adapted to a cartoon (and i use the term "adapted"  loosly) they got rid of almost ALL of the original elements and also added in that dog.

but im not saying get rid of captain n im just saying his character was so vague and generic that anyone can be him. also in tv shows its not that uncomen to do something like change the cast and main character  it helps keep from competing with your self and always  being compaired with the origanal. for example in star trek next gen rather then trying to reuse the origanal cast and compete with him self by re inventing kirk endlessly gene rodon berry decided to just make a new cast for it  thus enabling him to simply start over. it was still star trek but a different part of that universe.

many animes do this to and it can go down like a treat when done right.

also video games do this to all the time mega man zx for instance  doesent use the the actual megaman just some kids that use these things to gain the powers of x zero and others and the main cast changed in between games to. also megaman x  dousent use the origanal megaman they use x the successer model and overall a different person  and character. as well megaman legends the one the one that hooked me on that franchise uses again a different megaman  with nothing in common with the first exept for dominant colors and main weapon. then theres the battle network series which takes place in anouther universe where he isent even a robot there "megaman" is a net navi based on the downloaded mind of lans older brother hub who died years before the series began.

as well castlevania has a different cast every game seriously I think they used Dracula's kid a couple of times but aside form that its been a different main pretty much every game.

pokemon as well every game new characters with almost nothing in common with the original game aside from the titular monsters

sure doing it this way  is a big risk but one that can payoff big for the audiance as it lets new tones and  story lines be added in as well as new motivations with out having to ruin the origanal character by changing him to much. as long as enough is done to ensure it is still connectable to that universe it would go over pretty well. not that your complaints arent valid they are everyone has them when this kind of thing is done  and it can go badly  but when done right every one (or most) will love it for its differences and origanality.

also i always felt that the useless  animal sidekick was a trope best left dead  in cartoons unless it wasent  a real life  type animal or the creature was very useful to the plot with out it being forced usefulness that makes no sense if the character has half a brain. in fact outside of monster battle shows the only animal side kick i have truly enjoyed was  frisket from reboot. so id leave the dog out of a new captain n

Can a mod just cut off all the replies after this one and lock the topic? This is the only answer we need.

seriously, though

"i think this is a dumb trope so lets cut out a character because i only liked one animal sidekick, ever" is how im reading this

but, i feel like if they revived Captain N it'd probably work best as a video game, rather than a cartoon series.

Basically, a Super Smash Action RPG where you're Kevin and you've gotta float between Nintendo universes and help patch up galaxial holes opened up by Mother Brain.

Yeah, like Nintendo's version of Kingdom Hearts.

Or even a dopey game where you play as a huge nerd who mends the issues of all of Nintendo's abandoned IPs on a faraway island -- oh wait a second

oh Captain N 2008 there you are we've been looking for you
Honestly though, it could be indeed pretty interesting to see what they could do with the concept, specially if the show is still centered in a retro NES era setting. Now that they have more accurate references to the characters and the games available, maybe they can actually recreate them and make it feel like those games actually represented in the show, instead of some weird ripoff version of it merged with other ripoffs.

Also, some of the characters could be given a new twist as well (for example, Ridley and Kraid could serve as the Scratch and Grounder of the show, being the main lackeys of MB, with Ridley being the ingenious asshat and Kraid being the dopey muscleman).

To me, personally, any obscure, abandoned idea could easily be recycled and have all of its potential be put on used better than ever, and potentially make something enjoyable. And I think Captain N might be one such idea.

That's just me though.
I don't think that it's likely for Nintendo to pursue reviving Captain N, part of the reason why is because they really don't need to.

Captain N was produced in an era where advertising in the form of children's television was the norm (Transformers, G.I Joe, even the Mario and Zelda shows) Partly because there weren't advertising outlets like the internet. Another reason why Nintendo doesn't need Captain N is because they're known ubiquitously as THE video game company (they're essentially the Walt Disney Studios of the gaming world) And Captain N was made during a time where the novelty of video game consoles was somewhat of a smaller market. So really, Captain N was used as a way to advertise Nintendo gaming to kids who didn't already have a system, and to advertise other games that kids with systems might not have or know about.

While I like the late-80's/early-90's charm of the Captain N cartoons, I'd be extremely surprised if they brought it back.
I think it would be amazing if Captain N was rooted in the present age, and somehow old retro games were being infiltrated by Mother Brain, and Captain N's only means of interfacing with the characters of the past would be to be shot back into time in a vessel known as get this -- the Virtual Console. Captain N can only venture so far from the Virtual Console whilst still maintaining proper mollecular composure, otherwise he suffers from a horrible, painful (although temporary) mutation known as "pixelosis" that causes him to become pixelated in appearance.

Sort of like Doctor Who but with Nintendos.
Actually psht if they literally made it like Doctor Who but with Nintendos, and Captain N traveled with an old videogame character every 13 episodes, well
I'd probably die

actually fuck why hasn't a webcomic illustrator come up with this yet

dude that is an awsome idea for it  and it would give a perfect excuse to keep the zapper  and game pad as the weapons rather then a more recent contoller and explain the time control thing.

but i also think it leaves room to have mother brain attack more recent games and to have other main villens from other games like gannandorf or nightmare (from zelda and kirby respectfully).

also to answer your question the reson  no one has made a comic about this is that to do this kind of an epic concept would need an amazing artist and those arent cheapand lets face it most people who would fund this are broke.
