We're going to begin working on a means of displaying small icons alongside large icons without it look dramatically out of place. This will mean that we can implement the new system early, and not have so many submissions come in that will require their icons to be replaced on some weeks later.
I've been redoing the icons for this project:

I guess it would be more helpful if I could upload to the site.
Could someone update Pulseman's icon to this one? Just for the sake of consistency.

Done. I'll let Dazz check through them to make sure they're alright before marking it off as complete.
Not sure if anyone uses it but just thought I'd say that my script now supports transparent backgrounds. It works the same, it just counts transparency as a background, in addition to whatever you chose using the foreground colour tool. Same link.

By the way, I have a question about making icons. Some sprites are made up of bits, for example Schezo from Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary. If I wanted to make an icon using a sprite made up of these bits, do the bits have to be placed exactly as they are in the game? Or just so that they look good enough?

I do realise that I could use the one frame that isn't made up of bits, but the fact that his legs are cut off wouldn't look good on a big icon. Besides, in some cases there won't be any frames like that.

(I'm asking this for making icons when submitting sheets too, not just the ones we're renovating.)
Not trying to replace Puggsoy's script, but I made a crappy little application that does exactly what Raccoon Sam said on page 1. But like Dazz said right after him, it's not appropriate for everything.

(It outputs a transparent image btw.)

Chrome is saying the zip file is malicious... Can't download it :\

Huh, it seems chrome does that to any .exe that isn't okayed through google. I read making it password protected would help, but it didn't seem to work. Sorry, chrome users have to use firefox to download it.

JK, chrome doesn't check .rar files.

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but if there isn't an assembled example, or it isn't designed like a jigsaw puzzle, you can try searching for a full sprite on Google Images and either put the pieces together using a layer-provided painting program, or add it to the icon, provided it wasn't saved as anything but .png.
I've been using screenshots and assembling on top in most cases. It can be a real bastard, but it has to be done somehow. Remember that for really big stuff, only arrange what you think will be visible in the icon, as a full example isn't totally required and would be wasted effort.

If you're not totally sure how to arrange the sprite, and can't find an example, link to the sheet (on the old site's URL!!!) and ask if someone can help.
Right, OK. I was just wondering if it was necessary to be arranged exactly right, but if it is then I suppose screenshots (or asking if I can't find one) is the way to go.
Well not "EXACTLY" right, just close enough to the right thing. Don't stick someone's head as a hand, for example.
Well when I asked I actually meant like, does it have to be pixel-perfectly placed or just so it looks good enough. Because most of the time I can tell what it's supposed to look like, but I'd probably be off a couple of pixels.
A couple pixels won't hurt at all, just "close enough" Smile
How would someone update an already updated icon? It would seem a stray pixel was thrown into one I made and I can't fix it. Tongue

(Not the first time either, dunno why it keeps happening.)
