I think they'd probably give us one for an extremely common Pokemon, like the regional rodent or regional bird or something, just so it's a FYI and try it now thing. Other than that, the only other way I'm interpreting "not through normal gameplay" is something equivalent of the Battle Frontier or Pokemon World Tournament. Get X Points, buy them yourself. These facilities weren't part of normal gameplay (optional), so that's one other source I'm seeing.
It could also be obtainable via interactable games, like the AR game was for Black and White (alt formes of Thundurus, Landorus and Tornadus), Pokémon Ranger for Daimond and Pearl (Manaphy) and the Gamecube games for Ruby and Sapphire (Ho-oh and Lugia)
We cant rule out the possibility of post gameplay no?
I think you mean post-story gameplay, which probably still counts as "normal" gameplay. It's possible that they might be easier to obtain after the story, but you probably still need to use some special method to get them.

Anyway, since I haven't said anything about Mega Evolutions yet, they look pretty cool. At this point I'm just really curious as to what the other condition is, in addition to the Mega Stone, since that will probably shed more light on the effectiveness and significance of Mega Evolutions.
There appears to be a button in the battle interface that triggers Mega Evolution when possible.
Though from what I understand Mega Evolution doesn't cost a turn, the fact that it has to be activated manually, there has to be some sort of limits to it. As a matter of fact, why does the process need a tutorial if it were a simple "hold and it'll evolve" process (contradicting what I said earlier).
It is also stated that the game just gives you a Mewtwo with its Mega Stone for the tutorial. I hope it's just temporary and not that the game just gives you a Mewtwo for free, because that mofo needs to be earned!

Well...it's kind of like how from G/S/C onwards, they just give you the legendaries. Forget traveling the world and discovering them yourself like in the Gen I games, you have a fateful storybound encounter, and will have a 100% opportunity and chance to get them, given you normally have the Master Ball by that point in the game. So, it's not going to prevent people plowing through the game with legendaries anymore than it has in the past (assuming it's pre-League content)...except people have the choice not to do that. I never use legendaries on my team. Always use my favorite normal Pokemon I come across, with Lanturn being my main, since it's the best Pokemon all around Heart.
Compared to back then, we have too many Legendaries to catch. You can use the Master Ball (assuming you still get just one) to catch the story Pokémon, or keep it for Pokémon like "That is totally not the version 3 mascot"-Pokémon, the roaming Legendaries of Doom, etc.
Hai Everybody!
