Quote:Nintendo sent a DMCA and the admins had to unpublish over 500 flash games that featured assets and characters from Nintendo to evade any legal consequences. To me it seems like Nintendo is lately on a roll when it comes do making their fans upset, they also went against Let's Plays for a bit.

Grab whatever it is you need from TSR, because they probably won't be stopping anytime soon.
Please don't cause scaremongering. If we are forced to remove Nintendo sprites, we will fight it.
I'm actually a little scared myself, to be honest. :/

Though thinking about it, it's too early to tell whether this will become a trend or not. This is all strange... :/
I'm hoping that they really did that because all of the sick and wrong Nintendo "stuff" on Newgrounds, because we don't have anything like the "stuff" on Newgrounds on here, We'll be safe.

But if not, Mario Fan Games Galaxy is on DEATH ROW.

Edit: There's still like a dozen Mario Games on Newgrounds, this might not end well for Newgrounds.
If anything, the flash game(s) in question most likely violated the terms-of-service and fair use policies and probably the policies were updated a bit to fish out shams, and some of them were re-uploaded again after it was taken down the first time. Asking for money just because one made a fangame about mario isin't the best idea in the world..

Plus this hasn't been the first time the gaming industry had made it's consumers upset. Capcom was on a roll with dissapointment-after-dissapointment, from the DLC shams to it's sudden mobile phone card game RPG craze (which costed BoF a decent sequel after so long), Sega losing sight on what it stood for, etc.
Sega also did something similar with YTMND.

Same for Streets of Rage Remake, they didn't allow them to release it when they completed the game Cry
Umm this shouldn't be in Site Discussion as this doesn't directly pertain to the site. I'm moving it to General Discussion.
Who remembers when some really dedicated fans put out a video of their Chrono Trigger fan game that looked incredibly promising only for Square to send them a cease and desist letter?

Gaming companies pull shit like this every so often and when it goes nowhere they just shrug and forget about it for the most part (unless it's Square, Square just has to be that guy)
I'm sure there is some sort of exception regarding the use of copyrighted materiel for non-profitable reasons

I really despise accusations over copyright infringement because it's starting to become an annoying trend lately. Tongue
...Okay, let's try to assess the situation here.
Now admittedly I haven't been on Newgrounds for quite a while, but I do remember that some of the stuff I saw there was a bit, uh... shall we say, too risky? And by "risky" I mean "PG-13 and beyond"?

Maybe Nintendo just didn't feel too right about that kind of stuff circulating with their properties. You know, like that one Mario porn parody...

Well... to be fair, a lot of the so-called "accusations" are legitimate claims against copyright infringement. As far as the LAW is concerned, your point is moot. However, when it comes to things like the canned Chrono Trigger project which had a lot of fan interest, while it is technically for all intents and purposes and infringement of copyright, it did break the fans' hearts.

But yeah, its still infringement.
Meanwhile Capcom is endorsing fan games and promoting them....

While putting out none of their own fan desired games.
