Every day, shake all the non-fruit-bearing trees in your town.
You'll get 2k bells, two random pieces of furniture, 5 beehives (worth 2500 total), and up to 5 bees (assuming you catch them all) which you can sell for bells.

Outside of that, check nook every day.

I already found a duplicate fortune cookie at nooks. It is funny, I eat at my local Chinese food restaurant so much that I too have seen duplicate fortunes in real life.
