Well I played the GBA version which I didn't even finish (I think I gave up at a frog boss or something?), and I don't think I have the same sort of fond memories of it that you do. Although that was ages ago and I might just not remember it that well. Either way I'm not really expecting anything specific from the DS version, so I don't think I'll be particularly disappointed, or at least not in the same way as you.
But still, thanks for that. I'll take a look at some gameplay, same with Touch & Go, and see which looks better.
YIDS is a great game. It just isn't as great as the one that came before it.

But it's still great.
I'm not sure why people are expecting a sequel better than the first game because no matter how they do it people are always going to say the first game is better.
I actually haven't beaten YIDS, the difficulty spike in one of the last worlds was so extreme I couldn't seem to get past a level. I don't even remember, it's been years since I played it last. It is a very good game but be prepared for said difficulty spike later in the game. BTW you definitely need to play the first game again. That's all I can say, it's addicting. Also, final boss music.
I don't get when people talk about YIDS being really hard.

I didn't think it was >.>;
YIDS was just kinda weird to me. Rotoscoped Bowser, kinda horrible soundtrack, losing Baby Wario and Baby Bowser after their particular worlds for some reason, and just being kind of boring in general.

This Yarn Yoshi looks interesting though.
I think it's really weird that they are doing another yarn game of another series. They could at least try something a little different, like claymation or watercolor or something.
Yeah, I think using the yarn look again was odd, although maybe they plan on having it tie in with Kirby's Epic Yarn more closely than simply being a spiritual successor. In the Kirby game, you beat Yin-Yarn but not really his knitting needles, so maybe they return or something (Bowser wielding knitting needles?).
Didn't they say from the get go that the Yarn thing would be more than just a style for Kirby? I mean Metroid Yarn - now that would be awesome.

(+ I REALLY disliked YIDS from gameplay, concept and graphics - probably one of my most hated games of all time).
Hopefully this will be promising after the pervious attempts to resurrect a Nintendo series that failed miserably (Donkey Kong Country Returns and Mario Party 9).
How did those games fail miserably? They were good games and I can't remember getting a note with any of those games saying "If this sells well we'll make another."
Never played MP9, but DKCR was awesome so idk what you are talking about.
DKCR Was fantastic. I had no issues with it.

Anyway, I love the yarn style. It just fits Yoshi, just as did Kirby. I see Nintendo potentially using the yarn theme to tie together characters who were formally only related by being; A) Nintendo characters and B) In Smash Bros. A Yoshi/Kirby cross-over would be awesome since they share the eating enemies characteristic, it could make a rather nifty game.

EDIT: However I feel Yoshi could benefit from having a main adversary all his own, since Bowser is already Mario's and Luigi has King Boo. I guess Yoshi has Kamek who has been missing for ages/never stood out from any other magikoopa in terms of design. I would honestly like to see a game centered around Kamek being the main villain without Bowser ever making an appearance (read as Marth is still a Kamek fan-boy/Dark Kamek).
It'll be cool to see Kamek back, and could be quite possible as it's an easy reason as to why everything is made of Yarn now. I've never liked the 'new' Yoshi design too much (the whole no tail and my saddle is a shell look) but I guess that isn't going to change any time soon...

I can also say that (along with DKCR) MP9 is pretty good. WAY better than 8, so I would say it was a successful ressurection (people tend to hate it because of the car thing. It's not bad at all)
