- took down a lot of the first post (left enemies and Nido)

I get a lot of comments about Nidoqueen's name, seeing as how she's a girl and not a giant blue dinosaur with breast armor.
Well, Halloween's coming around soon, so I thought I'd dress her up as... well, technically herself.

when showing us sprites, make a 1px version available for us to see too. The zoomed version makes it hard to give criticism.

As for the sprite, the overuse of black lines really makes it bad, and the lack of shading contributes to she looking really flat. Aside from that, she appears misbalanced in the Nidoqueen version. Flip the sprite to help you notice the balance problems.

As for her casual sprite, her left breast seems bigger than her right, and there are a lot of straight lines and banding due to the aforementioned black outlining. Also why does she lack a mouth?

Honestly I saw the small sprites hard to see and annoying. Thanks for that though, I'll start to do that.

As for the sprite, the overuse of black lines really makes it bad, and the lack of shading contributes to she looking really flat. I didn't really want to add a lot of shading or extra colours due to the style. I was imitating the NES-style Mega Man graphics, and there's really not a lot of sprites with shading in those games. Most enemies (even the Robot Masters) usually stick with a few body colours and that's it. With that being said, after taking a look I agree with your opinion of the black lines. It does sort of feel overly "outlined", so I'll try going back and removing lines, putting colours next to one another (like where her shirt sleeves are).

Aside from that, she appears misbalanced in the Nidoqueen version. Flip the sprite to help you notice the balance problems. ... I would have never thought to flip it. Thanks.

As for her casual sprite, her left breast seems bigger than her right, and there are a lot of straight lines and banding due to the aforementioned black outlining. I really didn't know how to cover her, erm, chest. I guess I was trying to keep things consistent across her rotations, seeing as how in the front frame it's about that size. Wait... should the chest be -smaller- in the front frames seeing as how it's facing the camera instead of being shown from the side?

also black lines were just covered so I'll skip a second round if it's okay with you guys

Also why does she lack a mouth? Originally she did have a mouth, but after fixing her hair up a bit I played around with using the simple "line eyes" instead of the Mega Man styled face. It looked nice, so I just stuck with it from there. To be honest a lack of a mouth never really bothered me until you pointed it out just now. I'd like some thoughts over this if you don't mind.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely try some new things and hopefully get some repairs up soon. Smile
Yellow on white is hard to read so I converted your reply text to red.
Whoa, I thought I had replied to this already

No problem, glad to know you're considering my suggestions. Another thing I'd like to suggest, though, is since you aren't following Megaman style anymore (as seen on the girl's eyes and sprite size), how about ditching it altogether? Megaman sprites have a reason to be like that due to hardware limitations, so they needed to compromise quality with readability.

In your case though, this is uneeded, as the PC supports many more colors and sprite sizes, which could improve your character. Not to say that staying with Megaman style is kind of a bad move now because it's overused by people who makes bad edits and recolors (same with Sonic). Keeping a sprite style only because it is 'retro-looking' and 'easier to imitate' really hinders your potential imo.

I'll make a sprite edit when I'm home.
