$20-30 isn't a bad price at all though, if thats all the add on costs, I see no reason for people to be mad.
This new analog attachment complicates things for more than just players; it complicates things for developers. I think I can safely say that is one of the few good articles written on IGN.com in the history of its existence.

Quote:It's not that the Nintendo 3DS is necessarily doomed without a second analog stick. Had Nintendo never mentioned the idea, it could have likely made do. Some games developers would have probably passed the system by in favor of the Vita, but even Monster Hunter survived without two analog inputs – look at the PSP versions. But Nintendo decided to open that door. It has now openly suggested its launch hardware design is flawed. It's introducing an awkward patch to a portable design that is clearly inadequate in its own eyes.

This is a pretty good summary.
I don't see how this ruins things for developers though, thats the part that confuses me most. I don't see how it hinders them.

Because they might want to alter their controls for better use of a second analog stick and if its not even on the main console, instead just an attachment, it hinders there audience.

And plus everyone now knows that they are going to come out with another updated version, sales I think will be down a lot.. the only sales they are going to get is from the add on, the games and from people who buy the console anyways because they don't care to buy the add on.

Oh well, Ill just wait for the new version to come out.. I can wait, its not too much of a big deal to not play 3DS.

Adding in the smallest factor can cause a game to need to be reprogrammed entirely when it comes to something like this. If a game is designed to work without a second analog stick and two shoulder buttons, and the factor is suddenly added out of nowhere, the game basically has to be rewritten.

It's a much bigger impact than you realize; trust me.
But if this is for future games to utilize, isn't this not affecting much?
Most 3DS developers are already working on "future games." Any game that isn't out this very day is basically a "future game"-- because it's still in development.

If a developer was really far into their project and Nintendo dropped this device on them (which they probably did; developers hear about things way before the public does), then Nintendo would basically have to convince said developer to redo a huge chunk of their game for this new device, or develop it as-is; which leads to another point the article brought up; a separation between users that have the device and don't have the device, and the games developed for it.
Ah okay, thank you for the info Tyvon, while I still look forward to the attachment, I now understand why developers would be mad. Smile
so i wonder if this layton vs wright game will require a second analog?

what's that, logic? you mean the touchscreen does enough for controls and a second analog is just unnecessary?
and that most of the time most games just use the right analog to control the camera? hmm
sorry i couldn't hear you - did you say this is stunting the creativity and imagination of game developers?

speak up, impulse? you'd only buy this for a katamari damacy 3D and all other games can just use a touchscreen? and that katamari's a playstation staple and will never see the light of day on a nintendo system so just buy a vita instead?
i see.

in all honesty though, i'd only really want this thing if nintendo backed this thing hard and somehow gave me a discount through the ambassador program so that i'd be more driven to unfrugally spend money on more N64 remakes. and really - this just makes capcom seem like more of a crybaby. I can just see the creators in the office like "ANALOG PERIPHERAL OR SONY MAKES IT FOR THE VITA"

seriously capcom
what the fuck is wrong with you why not just literally shit on miyamoto's face on live tv, it'd be a better publicity stunt and we'd all remember it as something being ballsy as hell instead of this...thing making Nintendo being the laughingstock of a market they once dominated
why exactly is this capcom's fault again, i think i lost you
I never got why Katamari had to use both control sticks. One for each of the Prince's arms?

capcoms game, monster hunter 3ds, is the first game announced to use the add-on

clearly capcom is responsible for its existence!
To be honest katamari's control scheme makes some sense.

It would have been hard as balls to even control your cluster of shit with one joystick.

EDIT: While it's obvious to most people already I just want to point before some one mentions what katamari has to do with capcom, it doesn't have anything to do with it.

I still don't understand how capcom was involved in the decision to have an add on for this console.

oh hey they're making a monster hunter for 3ds and it's going to use the add-on, lets assume they bribed nintendo to make this shit.

I mean come the fuck on people, out of all the silly things that have become conspiracy theories about this add-on in specific, this is just another shitty abstract opinion that doesn't really explain itself.
