Well, to be fair, technical aspects mean nothing unless properly utilized.

Not to say they weren't, but capabilities on their own don't mean shit if they aren't used properly.

That's not the point.

MM is a superior game because it used its technical capabilities and improvements properly.

If we were talking about Street Fighter EX3, then you'd have a point, because EX3 has better technical aspects but they're not used right.

But we're not. All of these "buts" are just that-- buts.
if we were to analyze part by part how MM is basically an upgrade in every signle field over what OOT offered, then we'll had to start by something as simple as to how side quests are develop in each game.

sidequests on OOT for example are basically useless if we dont count those who lead to extra heart containers. ad most of said heart pieces arent even on a sidequest but rather just scattered around requiring nothing but exploration. the only major sidequest being the goron knife, an time attack race that grants you an item thats virtually useless. or unnecesary at least.

sidequests on MM give you an even more indepth on the story of the world you're living it. the most prominent one being anju & kafei's one.
In my opinion side quests shouldn't be deep anyway. They should just be for the rewards. Most of the masks you work your ass of to obtain only result in getting you one piece of heart. The payoff seems pretty bad, its a good thing I enjoy doing sidequests anyway but I can see why other people might be annoyed. Not to mention one of the hardest quests results in the Fairy Sword which seems pretty pointless when you can get the Golden Sword which may not be as powerful but far more functionable. Yes the Fairy Sword is worse than the Goron Sword.

Then again OoT had that Gerudo Training Ground which result in the Ice Arrow which are pretty useless in that game.
the payoff comes when you get every mask and beat the ever-loving shit out of majora's mask with fierce deity link
I used to collect every mask to get the fierce deity mask and then not use it because it makes the final boss piss easy.

And that's nice, but for a game like MM, "deep" side quests work. They add to the story, they give you more insight on the area and the characters, and they are just overall beneficial to the game. Even if in "your opinion" they don't, the fact of the matter is that they do.

And four pieces of heart gets you a new heart container which allows you to survive longer... where's the part where this is a bad payoff?????????????

What?

The fact that the Great Fairy's Sword is a C-item makes it a lot more useful in general, because it does more damage than the Gilded Sword, you can use it on the fly, and then you can just put it away. It's not like Biggoron's Sword where you have to keep pausing the game and switching your weapon every time you want to go between the two. It's instant and it's convenient-- not to mention very situational.

In essence, yes, the Ice Arrow is completely useless in OoT. But then again that's just another thing that MM is superior to OoT about (Ice Arrow creates frozen platforms on water? HELL YES WHY DIDN'T IT DO THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE)

Don't forget freezing enemies into floating platforms or pushable blocks.
The ice arrow confirmed for best arrow of the year all year every year.

it does, but in a way that's almost refreshing; you spend the entire game correcting all of the shit majora's mask and the skull kid caused in termina, and your reward for doing so allows you to completely demolish it

something about staring down a villain i consider to be pretty menacing and evil and beating it to death in such an extravagant fashion feels incredibly satisfying

if you want more of a challenge, then yeah, you probably won't want to do that. when you put it in the perspective of the rest of the game, though, its just amazingly satisfying to pound majora into submission, it feels like an appropriate ending
lets not forget how you can kill those aliens in the ranch's sidequest
That not what I meant. I meant that most of the masks are useless after getting that single Heart Piece.

When I was a kid this was the only thing I could do after I became human again.

Best side-quest ever.

Unless you don't give a shit about getting the fierce deity mask, then yes it is.

so basically all of these so called "pointless" side quests you're bringing up are actually a huge sidequest all together that can be pretty useful in the final boss battle.

Oh.
fun fact, anyone who played the game for the first time and worked to collect said masks, had no idea the fierce deity mask is rewarded at the very end of the game.

you do collect the masks because for the most part they do reward you not only with a heart container but with a share of the plot. and i'm pretty sure koopaul is the one who always complains at the lack of deepth in current gen games.
