Come on, it's obvious that he only lost his hope.

nope, just drunk i believe.
Is it round 1 that ends on 10th of August or the whole thing?
The whole of TUGS ends on the 10th of August.
It doesn't sound long, but that's about four days per round, and a day to judge and organize the forums per round!
I think that more than three levels may be necessary. :/ "Beginner, intermediate, and expert" doesn't seem like enough.

Errrr.

In that case, I really hope you're not going to make any sort of mockup-related round.

I think that less two levels may be necessary. Levels and brackets only serve as an insult for the people expecting to do better and only serve to eliminate half of the talent from every bracket in the first round

NO YEAH WE NEED BRACKETS LETS DO THIS YEAH
half of the good pixel artists are gone
half of the pixel artists unfortunate enough to not make it into expert (or beginner depending on how you're looking at it) are gone
half of everyone else who just got thrown into beginner because none of the judges liked their stuff are gone.

As much as you would like this to be, Chris
This isn't TUGS. Your plan to actually finish the tournament is your biggest mistake right there, the past 3 haven't been completed. It's a tradition to not finish. You have fucking like... 9 judges and 75 entrants
I could understand brackets if this was smaller but this is just

you're pitting the best against the best, the middle against the middle, and the worst against the worse en masse and hoping that it's going to turn out interesting

put everyone against everyone regardless of skill level and you will truly have the best of the best at the end of this tournament. What if someone who was in intermediate ended up being better than someone in expert? What if someone in beginner ended up besting everyone in the tournament according to everyone who saw this event?

Nothing. There would be no true victor. You'd have the alleged best of the best, the best of the "eh", and the best of the worst.
Don't insult people like that.

If you want to keep labeled brackets in this thing, make it ONE bracket, and have it be a losers bracket. Don't insult people by forcing them into tiers that they might not necessarily belong in
I'm actually not insulted at all by being not an Expert (or intermediate, if it ends up that way). I really like the idea of having brackets (which will most likely be fair, because we have 9 friggin' judges). I figure there will be a lot less butthurt if I (or anyone else, just using me as an example) get paired up against someone on my level every time then if I get paired with a professional, 12-years-of-experience artist.

Chris is just protecting his own ass (and the collective ass of the forums) here. Imagine the shitstorm if someone who was new to the forums and pixels got paired up with Elk first round!

If you (or anyone else) is pissed that it really isn't "The Ultimate Great Spriter" or whatever, just give the other two brackets different titles for the winner. Problem solved.

I want to join this event. Please add me to the list. =D

If they can't beat Elk in the first round, they wouldn't have had a chance to win TUGS in the final round.

[12:57Cute9 AM] Wonderful: i dont give a shit if elk faces a first time spriter
[12:57:58 AM] Wonderful: i give a shit if elk faces neorice in the first round and i have to sit through like 5 more rounds of neorice or elk not even being there
[12:58:08 AM] Wonderful: wheres the fun in that
it would be kind of dickish to intentionally weed out the less experienced spriters by pitting them against the experts, but im starting to agree that tiers are kind of counter intuitive by removing half of the experienced spriters right off the bat. its more fair that way yes, but far less entertaining overall
Very, very few people could beat Elk at all. That's the point I was making.

In the end, the idea is this - do you want to have TUGS be really fun for only a few people (no tiers), or pretty fun for everyone (tiers)?
Throw me against Elk in the first round then, I'll gladly take him.

Not even kidding. Do it, I wanna see what this guy can do in a match since you all talk of him so highly.

edit: Just saw one of his works, don't even give a shit, let me attem' not all of us are wimps, some seek the experience.
call me stupid and make vipershark post jokes all you want but i think 1up's idea is pretty dumb

tiers aren't "insulting"
not really sure how a fucking skill level is an insult but okay

but seriously, the lack of tiers idea is really dumb please don't do it
untitled post some stuff man
talk is cheap
