Still no one has answered what does a pink puffball got that DK doesn't?
Koopaul you're kinda taking the fact that not everyone likes DKC as much as you a little personal.

Um, no, pretty sure nobody does this at all.

I'm pretty sure they do. Whenever DK is brought up in popular culture what do you think they reference him as? Also i try looking for DK fanart, geuss what most of it is dedicated to? Country or Arcade?

I think that's more of an issue of which games are more beloved, not how the character is viewed. I'm pretty sure people are aware that Donkey Kong isn't the antagonist he used to be and that he has his own series, if anything he's probably more tied to Mario Kart/Party than arcade, but people are gonna talk about DK arcade in pop culture because DK arcade actually y'know, has a place in pop culture. I don't think the reason people aren't interested in newer DKs has anything to do with being stuck on his arcade image.

When I think of Donkey Kong characters I can only think of two things: be really brown and act silly. And that's it. I don't think the non-talking Nintendo characters things works out too well in their case. The music and atmosphere tend to put me to sleep too...

When I think of Kirby I think pink and cute. What about it? It's like I said before, its superficial reasons. Nowadays things have to be uber cute or super cool. No room for funny animals.

And the music and atmosphere of DKC was some of the best around! Jesus did you even play that games?

Superficial? Character design in media kind of matters a lot, and the character designs in DK aren't usually much to look at. They could at least do a colorful cast like diddy kong racing or something. But even if we ignore that, I'm pretty sure the cast has like no development anyway and you can't call that superficial. I'm not sure, but doesn't the cast shift like crazy too sans DK and diddy? I can't be very excited about a bunch of apes that don't really have any defining character and no staying power. Kirby doesn't consist of solely "look at me being cute and monotone" characters, it has some variations like Meta Knight and it doesn't have an atmosphere that puts me to sleep.

Sticker brush symphony? Sure, that's a pretty nice chill song, I'm not saying the music is BAD or the atmosphere is BAD but they make me sleepy and eventually that turns into boredom. I want to be excited about games.

Some people just happen to like Kirby games a bit better. For me at least, I like the idea of being able to eat random monsters and copy their powers. Gameplay-wise, its rather unique and fun if not as challenging as most games.

Regardless, that's my OPINION. Just because not everyone likes the DKC series doesn't mean that we think they're bad games in any way shape or form. They just don't appeal to us which you can probably understand somewhat as you have similar feelings about the Kirby games. And I hate to say it like this, but you whining about why you yourself like those games isn't going to make us suddenly enjoy them more if we didn't like them much in the first place.

Now on topic, I'd love to see more games that play like the Super Smash Bros. series. There's a few games that take similar ideas from it, but not many that play too much like it.

Well it's kind of upsetting to hear people telling you the series is lame and you're the only one who likes it.

Right? Like if everyone told you Oshare Bones was a boring character that put people to sleep.

But yes I'll stop now.
Actually I don't really care what other people say about characters I like tbh. I might get mildly offended if someone were to directly insult me for liking someone or something, but just talking about a character or game that I like doesn't matter. Everyone has different tastes, after all, and fictional things especially are nothing to get that worked up over. If you like something then just go ahead and like it, who cares who disagrees with you.
Sorry if I pushed things out too far, I just wanted to create some form of understanding about why people feel what way here. I don't really dislike the DK series, I just don't really care for it either.

Seriously though I'd like a sequel to Pacman 2. That was some creative stuff.
sequel to The World Ends With You
Luminous Arc 3 english
Indeed. I also want to see Pac-Man try new things that are still directly linked with his roots. Vipershark is right about the World games, there's nothing to it that says "Pac-Man" besides Pac-Man himself. However I think you could take maze exploring and ghost conquering to a new level if they put their minds to it.

Actually I think Pac-Man should go the direction of Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness.

Actually, yes, I suppose to flat out say that I dislike the DKC series is a bit harsh.
I don't /dislike/ the games, but I don't /like/ them either.
Not really sure how to put it

I kind of want a sequel to pacman 2 but the only problem is that there's a 99% chance that it would end up as shovelware on the wii.

The world games are fun though but as has already been said, they aren't really pacman.
'I don't understand why you don't like DK so much what if I hated the things you like'-Koopaul, 2011

Sorry, but hot damn. We're different from each other, so it's terribly obvious that there's a chance of someone not liking something you like. It's upsetting and all, I know, but this doesn't justify all the 'what if I hated something you like' posts. In fact, I'm sure they won't be giving two shits and continue life as usual. Those posts are childish as hell.

I like the DKC games and the soundtrack is superb but just because I like it doesn't mean everyone should too :I there's this small thing called opinion after all.

Sorry Koopaul but Gors is 100% correct. This is exactly like back in the Sonic thread, after I said what I liked, everyone was all "Silver (or any character other than Sonic Tails Knuckles Eggman blah blah) did nothing for the series", "Sonic Chronicles wasn't a good game with bad music" yadda yadda, I know this feeling.

Someone's gonna go against your opinion on something, that's how things work. If they're mature enough to say that it's their opinion and not slam you about it then great. No one ever hated on DK, I can't see how they would. If the games don't appeal to them like Viper and Starsock then that's just how they feel. You're not the only one who likes the DK series, Koopaul. I'm with you, with many others on TSR I'm sure.

Things like this are going to happen. Me personally I think that games like Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star, Fallout, Halo and etc. are pretty overrated and I don't like them, but I completely respect anyone who does. Everyone's got their own point of view. If we all agreed on the same thing this would be a strange world.

See I think that sucks when people can't see beyond the arcade series. Pac-Man World games were pretty damn good and I think Pac-Man could become a great franchise if people would just see him as more than he once was. And that's a problem with Donkey Kong, people continue to see him as Mario's antagonist rather than a hero in his own right.

At any rate I still would like to know why you find the characters boring. Not "cool" enough? Needs more spiky hair?

To add my point on this, I might as well add that I didn't know about the arcade game of Donkey Kong and Jumpman until I was like 14-15 years old.
I've owned my N64 since I was 10 and have played DKC once when I was even younger at a friends house.

It still never appealed to me, why? The character development is lacking. I mean, Angie is right when she says that when you think of DK, you think of acting silly and thats it.

Sure, you might ask "Well if DK is boring then what does Tinkle Popo have that DK doesn't" The answer to this is an actual personality. This might seem a bit Harsh but DK just seems like a dude who saves whatever with a silly personality. Kirby on the other hand is dude that likes to sleep and eat and doesn't quite always understand what is going on but pushes through anyway and he even has more powers then DK does. DK has strength and Kirby has Flight and shooting which are done in a very unique way compared to other characters that can fly or shoot things. DK can just smash things with his arms, like any other guy with strength can do, it's just kinda boring.
Well I'm sorry about how I acted. I thought it was over anyway...

But Kat I think DK has just as much personality as Kirby. It's there, you just aren't seeing it.

It seems to me the characters are just as expressive and enjoyable as the Kirby characters.

He's a simple easy-going ape that doesn't understand what's going on, but knows he needs to stop it.

In fact DK seems to have more personality than most Mario characters. Let's not forget Cranky Kong. He got tons of funny dialogue.

Hah, you have a point, that video was pretty amusing. The game looks better than I thought. Cranky Kong is SO my favorite DK character. Big Grin
