I was surprised nobody here was talking about it! I've been reporting the news on this new Sonic game on The VG Resource for the past week, and it really does seem like a step in the right direction.
The rumor from back in October from a SEGA rep in Europe was that it would be a collection of levels from Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis/Mega Drive - 1991) to Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast - 2001) remade in the Sonic Colors 3D/2D style.
So far from what the trailer implies we can see that Green Hill Zone is remade in that very style, and we also see Modern Sonic kickin' it with Classic Sonic.
According to Trunks over at Sonic Retro (who has credible sources) we should be seeing the classic levels remade as well as alternate costumes, which could mean switchable skins similar to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed where you could play as Anakin Skywalker and other characters instead of Starkiller.
