The tale of a young Innkeeper who gets caught by his past and embarks on a
journey that sends him to the far reaches of the world.

The Cartographer is a traditional RPG centered on exploration, from the tropical Howling
Island to the cold kingdom of Bornstad.

The world is constantly threatened by Dragons and to fight them, the "old ones" forged the
Dragon Swords- powerful blades that only the Slayers could wield. Whenever a Slayer died,
his descendant would inherit the title.

The story starts in the kingdom of Althendria, when grim news arrive about the far-away campaign
against the dragon Myrniar. The Kingdom's Dragon Slayer has died and immediately the King sends
various messengers throughout the nation in search for his only son, the rightful heir to the title.
One of the messengers reaches Cinnamon Town...

a charming curiosity of magic - wanting to learn everything there is to know about it.
Due to her knowledge in ancient cultures, Alina is called to join Arcturus in his expedition
to a mysterious Island that is said to be the core of the ancient Yaxtual Civilization.

Arcturus Mortem was born in the Western land of Epherdon. His parents, however,
were originally from Bornstad. Having witnessed the destructive power of Regnar the Dragon Arcturus
obsesses over them and after years of research has begun to understand their behavior- noticing a pattern
in their landings on the planet. But to conclude his studies he needs the help of a Slayer to reach the
legendary Howling Island.

Thanks to everyone that helped improve this post, and specially to Ketski for going through the whole game fixing bugs and spell checking.
First off, this by no means a Traditional RPG. That would be Dungeons & Dragons, or Shadowrun, or any other kind of pen and paper RPG. And an Old-School RPG game would be a dungeon-crawler would be in lieu of Wizardry or Ultima, or some other kind of excuse-plot dungeon crawler. So maybe this is a SNES-era JRPG?

Second, nothing in the screenshots, plot, or demo video seem to give any real justification to 'Cartographer'. None of the characters seem to be map makers, and there doesn't seem to be any game mechanics that revolve around the construction of maps.

Which is pretty much a big wasted opportunity. Even including the 'place locations on the map' element of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance would do something towards making the experience less... bland.
Ah, yes
I sometimes forget to explain myself xD
The phrase "traditional rpg" should be "traditional console J-rpg", these terms are used so loose in rpgmaker forums that I kinda think everyone uses them, sorry

The title, by it self makes no sense especially from a story or gameplay point of view... and thats a bad thing xD
But "The Cartographer" project started as an excuse to experiment with the mapping in VX, trying to leave behind some of its squareness by slightly editing and mixing its RTP, and of course, working within the program's standard tile spaces. Of all the rpgmakers, VX has one of the most limited mapping tool, in sense of layering and number of tiles...

... So yeah thats why the name, a very weak argument but over the months the game has been out there the name kinda stuck with it : )
screenshots and/or gameplay video please
Screenshots should be in the spoiler... at least I see them... strange o_O

Here is the spoiler:

Under the title there is a link to a video in youtube:
