That new brown palette is pretty good, but the lipstic colour still jarrs a bit. Maybe it should be terracotta instead of pink. Would be more, um, believable for a rock head. You don't need to dither that much either.

i get what you mean about the sudden change in colour so there will probably be changes with the lips

@Groove - is the over dithering a general thing or is it in specific areas? because as i look at it now the top right hand corner does look over dithered but i don't see much wrong with the rest of it
I
I'm not really good at explaining it, but dithering is kind of meant to be used as a gradient when you have a limited colour palette, or to simulate the 'frayed' effect of the end of brushstrokes; instead of using it as a texture like you've done here.

Metaru usually explains this better than I can. =|
You don't have the talent to know how to dither correctly, stop worrying about it.

Besides, knowing how to dither correctly is the least of your worries right now. Knowing what a lightsource is and how to actually show that you have one are far more important and relevant problems judging from the sprites in here
that olmec head is meant to resemble a cilinder if i am correct. and right now it looks more like a carved stone or a mask.
