I always dig straight down, and then I make homes when I either find patches of earth or openings in the underground.

I have yet to see this as a bad idea (seeing as how I always have ladders on me to get out when I need to get out~)

My first home on one of the servers I like going to eventually led to a dungeon but I couldn't be bothered to explore it.
Wait, as in you're literally just digging down in a straight line?
That can be dangerous since you could fall into lava Very Sad
It's best to dig diagonally when you want to move downwards- not as fast, but you're less likely to come across any nasty surprises
Or like

Take a large fall into a dark, wide open cave and have the fall take out half your health, then put a torch down to find out there's zombies and skeletons and spiders around you and get raped and lose your diamond pickaxe like I did.

Which is why when I dig "straight down" anymore, I actually make a 2x2 hole rather than a 1x1, and I never stand on the block I'm mining.
Or even 2x1 would be good Colton's way

I've seen youtube vids of water elevators with boats
they go up really fast
Oh

So that means if I ever try my house in the sky idea again I won't have to take 5 hours swimming up the waterfall. Also I do 2x2 because it feels safer.
its one of the sickest games ever, i just bought it 2 weeks ago.
I played the ripped version but the decided to support the creator.
Also you can't play multiplayer on a cracked version Smile
Actually you can if the host turned secure mode off.

Yeah!
I'm thinking if I end up expanding enough I'm gonna build a waterway system for transport rather than using minecarts.

Although minecarts are also pretty sweet, so I don't know.
Speaking of Minecarts why hasn't anyone done anything DKC themed?

No I tend to aim for lava, because then I have a rad deathtrap~

When I dig straight down, I don't keep valuables on me. And I do it in a 2x2 block, where I dig out each of the four corners three blocks downward, and apply ladders as needed. So it's essentially Colton's strategy.

If I hit lava, then I go back in, dig out a cave above the lava, and then I have a deathtrap for people who aren't aware of how to properly get down. If not, then I steal some buckets, find a lava source, and then fill up my pit's bottom with lava. Then I set up base, dig around, find some nice ores, and call it home. And people don't like jacking from my base since it's hard to get into (depending on the pattern of ladders I set up).

But yeah, this is only done with wood picks and wood shovels. I'd never bring down anything I don't want to lose :>
Yeah, I've made that mistake plenty of fucking times.
When I dig down, I always dig in a way that I can quickly and easily turn the shaft into a water elevator, so it's a 2x5 spiral staircase all the way down to bedrock (I haven't built a shaft that ran into lava yet). Later, when I change it to an elevator, I simply remove the remaining blocks, pour the water in, and put in a boat.

The problem with a waterway system is that boats tend to break REALLY easily. You have to have all your channels in 7-block increments so that your boat isn't smacking the walls at all.

Yeah I was kinda wondering when someone would make a Kongo Isle already

I'd do it but I have like no understanding of depth >:
I really love this game, with SMP it never gets boring!
