I mustve been using the wrong weapon, it literally took that long to kill basic enemies.
the weapon you start with will kill anything you first encounter in less than 4 hits at level one in the first level
were you using both hands, because if you just use one hand that'll slow things down a decent amount
God fucking damn. I had just gotten to the Outer Wall and was looking for a save zone when I encountered a random fucking boss (clone version of me), and got mutilated. Now I have to start over at a save zone two areas back.

Thank god the games of today have autosave.
there was a save point right before the boss.

I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE FUCK ANYTHING IS IN THIS GAME.
it was right across from the door you came in to get there. Smile

I think I'm making things harder than they actually are.
never enter a boss room until you've done an extensive search for a savepoint nearby

also, take a few times after looking an enemy up @ the library to see if it drops anything. some of the drops you can get early really help.

i have a savepoint with literally everything discovered, obtained, exploted, faceraped and otherwise in symphony

I still haven't gotten to the library yet, so I'll just do that "extensive savepoint search" part for now.
also in the right tower of the castle (where you are) there's a way to get in the grate blocked room near the bottom, but i'll let you find it.
SotN is pretty awesome, but I think Ecclesia is a better game. Portrait and... the other DS one were good, but not nearly as in-depth and extensive as the other two.
protip: dont go in boss doors without saving
