Thanks for the great comments, everyone. ^^

Arthur: Yeah, her armpit area does seem a bit... exaggerated. The line on her armpit suggests that she has breasts.. which isn't possible since she's just a child. Ded

Epistaxis: I haven't seen such good crit in such a long time. I can tell that you know what you're talking about. =3 Thanks a lot!

Yeah, her hair is indeed flat Ded I didn't know how to break up her hair into 3D shapes.. I don't know how to shade hair in general (it's really hard...) I need to study hair moar.

TBH, the background was an afterthought. Unlike my other pics, I didn't thumbnail the sketch. I colored flare and thought - "Hey, a background would awesumfy this pic". I drew a massive inferno around her (with the fire closest to her chest), but it made the composition hard to read. As a result, I drew something more "readable" - a massive fireball below flare, which extends its blazing arcs out of its hot shell and into the dark depths of space. That BG accentuated flare more than the original. However, that also messed up the intended light source...

Oh, and I don't draw exclusively in an anime style... I'm more of a multi-styled artist than anything. XD
Shawn says:

Art request for a friend. He wanted me to draw it in my retro style.

Oh, and here was my first digital drawing way back in 2007. I have improved since then.

I recolored it a year later.

But the million-dollar question is: Should I recolor it again?
The light source is everywhere on the image; there's no consistent point from which light is coming from, and it makes it look kind of awkward.

The actual drawing is done very well and the colors are nice. Your friend will really enjoy it.
You need a defined light source also Etna's hair isn't red, it's pink and her hair doesn't frame her face like that.

Haha, you're so right! I did *plan* a lightsource beforehand, but I must have neglected it while coloring the picture. Is there a way to keep the lightsource in check?
Well adding a layer to draw a sun in kinda helps me a little.

Also not sure if you saw this but:

If you are drawing a character that is not yours it is good to make sure that you keep the features that they have and yet put them into your own style at the same time.
^

it really doesn't look like etna
the style you have this thing in seems to use hair/facial features as the main defining trait(s) of a character
and you got both of those way off
you could have gotten away with saying it was a completely different/original character honestly

Are you sure it's Pink? This is a reference I used for drawing etna; it looks really reddish to me.

and I can see what you mean about her pigtails... they should be located in the back of her head, not on the sides. Thanks for pointing that out. ^^
