That was nard... I forgot my password... Anywho, I'm working on the bomb explosion. So far I have the general story board of what the explosion is going to be, and a semblance of a mental video of what the explosion will look like.

I'm planning on coloring the explosion with a white or bright yellow center, then have the edges fade to reddish-orange. Unsure how to transition to smoke, but the explosion is shaped after the mushroom kind.
sounds good. For explosions it usually is from brightest to darkest: white, yellow, orange, red, and black or brown. Some people even use a dark purple. It actually looks pretty neat.

As far as I know, we don't really have a tutorial now that we've changed style.
Instead, we're pretty much trying to mimic Chaoxys' sprite of Link.

Right now we're basically all just giving feedback on Chaoxys' sprites and trying to contribute by spriting stuff.

Made my first explosion. I don't like it, but I will experiment a little bit more before I ask for recommendations.

[Edit:] Okay, I've done some more work on the bomb. Does either style go well with this project? I outsourced the link since the file is starting to get big. Or at least big in my opinion.

the explosion on ground looks very ms paint like. And did you make the explosion for the air one? It looks like a rezized animation of one I've seen before...
Yes, the explosion sprites look too much like drawn in paint.
The bombs are not bad.

Anyway, why don't you try to make a WW styled explosion?
So the sprites would match better with the style.

I made all the animations. The explosion on the ground is a rough sketch--I halted work on it since is wasn't going well.
I made both versions of the [explosion in air]. The top one feels like it should be in a action arcade game.

At first I was trying to create Wind Waker style explostions, but I stopped when I couldn't find any good references on the web. Only after reading you post did I remember I own Wind Waker. I don't need to find references. *sigh*

Sorry I've been gone guys.

From what I've seen we haven't made too much headway, but Chaoxys has come up with another Link sprite for overworld, and we'll use the one we have now for the 2D sections. Here are the poses for the new Link (though ugh, the side pose sucks).
