Yoshi's Epic Ya-- I mean, Wooly World

The DS game was alright, although the baby-switching mechanic got a bit too annoying for me. Plus, the aesthetics of the game felt a bit... off.

There was also the weird-ass subplot with the "star children" and time-traveling Bowser and Kamek from the future.

This is exactly why I think the game feels like a fangame. Mixed graphics and everything was just... unprofessional feeling. It's not the only reason why, but it's a huge factor.

Also yeah, the subplot was pretty dull and uninteresting.

They somehow managed to avoid making his special power involve his butt in some way.

Its certainly better than the one in New Island, lol

The only thing I truly hate about New Island is how they undid the rather heartwarming ending of the original YI. I think a close friend of mine said it best: "That was probably the first time I actually seriously felt like something hurt my childhood."
#36
Which is odd, because the director of the original game was supposed to keep the developers at Arzest (aka ex-Artoon employees) in line.

...why does the combination of Artoon and the Yoshi franchise always seems to result in something highly controversial? Oh hell, I'm getting off-topic.

Because Artoon's a pretty lousy developer? XD

I just finished reading the story of New Island and yeah, that sounds like a pretty silly way to get the plot going again and it does retroactively mess up the first YI's ending.

I haven't played the game so I'll ask: how does time travelling Bowser and Mario fit into the mix? Does that come into it midway through the game or does adult Bowser really just randomly tear through the fabric of time to be a final boss?

No he's kind of there from the beginning.

i loved yoshis new island. it combined my two favorite game art styles, the pasty pastel oval land of new super mario bros and the vile diaper baby reality of post-3D yoshi

Same here. The retcon in New Island makes me so angry. In my mind, that shitty retcon never happened, and Yoshi's Island ended like how it normally did.

Anyway, I feel we've gotten a little off-topic here. This thread has become more of a New Island thread than a Wooly World thread.

Weird, most of the plot descriptions I've read make no mention of Bowser time-travelling whatsoever. I assumed it figured more into the plot, like Bowser had went back in time to make sure Mario and Luigi were never saved which starts the whole adventure anew.

Bowser basically appeared out of nowhere at the end as a surprise final boss. The game never built the moment up and it wouldn't have made a difference if he didn't appear at all.

Even Yoshi's Island DS did a better job with including Bowser in the story and it's made by practically the same developer, too.

it's ok to suck, sucking is not bad, just try and aim to always do your best!

Oh. Well that's lame.

I don't really care too much about the storyline in most Mario games, but "oh wait wrong parents sry" and then having the exact same thing happen all over again (right up to finding the stork strung up on top of Bowser Jr's castle because this game is completely different) is pretty lazy even by Mario plot standards. It's especially stupid if they're going to randomly throw time-travel in there at the end and not incorporate it into the rest of the story somehow.
